Parenting your High School student High School students are beginning to think for themselves Learn how to make good decisions despite what others think and the decisions they make With guidance, learn to reflect on the outcomes of their choices - How well did that work for you?
33
How can parents best help their high school student? Encourage your student to speak up, bring to us his or her questions, concerns and suggestions Teach your child to be flexible, make lemonade! Provide guidance and direction with academic work only when requested; persevering at difficult tasks is important Frustration is healthy and necessary for growth - let the kids work it through
34
How can parents best help their high school student? Give your children increasing opportunity to make decisions about how they spend their time Allow your child to make mistakes, then teach/model how to learn from their mistakes Be present and available, even if they act like they don’t want you around Your kids are still listening and watching
35
Keep in mind… Testing limits is part of their job description Providing consequences when they cross the limits is yours and ours Trust, but verify!
36
We look forward to getting to know your children and helping to make their transition to Beth Tfiloh High School a successful one!
