18 Study Abroad in Panama July 2013 THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI Center for Logistics, Trade and Transportation And College of Business Summary Marine ports are important to the US & Panama’s economic environment due to global trade By 2020, international trade is due to increase; therefore, port infrastructure is vital for countries to increase their imports and exports Physical infrastructure and human infrastructure are interconnected and can significantly affect the overall profitability of an organization The results found that there were significant differences in port physical infrastructure and fewer differences on human infrastructure between both ports. This is primarily due to the type of vessels and methods of shipment for each commodity; whether it is containerized, bulk, or break-bulk in form. Additionally, human infrastructure varied due to the difference in private and leased port operations, as well as cultural differences
