By : Patrick Maxwell Salary Cap

A salary cap is the limited amount of money that teams can spend on players contracts. This helps maintain the competitive place of teams that fans love. David Stern NBA Commissioner Bud Selig MLB Commissioner Roger Goodell NFL Commissioner Gary Bettman NHL Commissioner

NFL Salary Cap The NFL has a hard cap which means under no reason can a team break the salary cap signing a player. The players union is very up set over this and wants' no salary cap. With out a salary cap more rich and powerful teams will be able to get better players which may lead to no football in 2011 some people say.

Teams Over and Under the Salary Cap Over the salary cap Team Cap status (over) Indianapolis Colts $5.9 million Washington Redskins $4.9 million Under the salary cap TeamCap status (under) Green Bay Packers$35 million Minnesota Vikings$30.9 million Arizona Cardinals$28.9 million Cleveland Browns$27.1 million Philadelphia Eagles$26.1 million San Diego Chargers$24.6 million Jacksonville Jaguars$23.4 million Dallas Cowboys$22.6 million St. Louis Rams$22.1 million New Orleans Saints$20.2 million San Francisco 49ers$20.2 million Detroit Lions$17.7 million Seattle Seahawks$17.3 million New England Patriots$16.9 million Cincinnati Bengals$16.6 million Chicago Bears$14.9 million Buffalo Bills$14.1 million New York Jets$14 million Houston Texans$12.7 million Atlanta Falcons$12.2 million Denver Broncos$10.9 million Baltimore Ravens$10.6 million Carolina Panthers$10.4 million New York Giants$9.9 million Kansas City Chiefs$7.3 million Miami Dolphins$6.3 million Tennessee Titans$6.2 million Pittsburgh Steelers$6.1 million Tampa Bay Buccaneers$5.1 million Oakland Raiders$653,000

Highest Paid Player Julius Peppers from the Carolina Panthers is the highest paid player in the NFL at 16.683 million a year. He did earn it because he was named rookie of the month on 10/02, 2002 defensive rookie of the year, all – rookie team 2002, 05, 06, 07, 09, 010 NFC Pro Bowl, 04, 06 All- Pro Team NFC defensive player of the month 11/08. I think he does deserve this salary.

NBA Salary Cap The NBA has the soft cap which may broken under certain conditions. Every July the NBA will project the basketball related income (BRI) and also the benefits of the up coming year which will later become the salary cap. C Defined percentage of BRI Actual salary cap 2005-0649.5%* $49.5 million ($37.125 million for the Charlotte Bobcats) 2006-0751%$53.135 million 2007-0851%$55.63 million 2008-0951%$58.68 million 2009-1051%$57.7 million 2010-1151% 2011-1251%

Highest Paid Player Tracy McGardy is the highest paid player in the NBA with a pay role at 23,329,561. He is one of the most recognized star s he is a 7 time All – Star since 2001 and also a All – NBA selection 7 times too. He has even scored 62 points in a single game and won the Most Improved player award then two years later he won the NBA’s scoring title. I don’t think he dseveres this pay role for he is not as decorated as Kobe Bryant.

MLB Salary Cap The MLB salary cap is well… they have none. Many people would say that the salary cap would save baseball or ruin the players union and how teams would be having battles at the trade deadline. MLB has the luxury tax but it rarely comes into play. 1 New York Yankees $194,663,079 2 Boston Red Sox $120,099,824 3 Los Angeles Angels $103,472,000 4 Chicago White Sox $102,750,667 5 New York Mets $101,084,963 6 Los Angeles Dodgers $98,447,187 7 Chicago Cubs $94,424,499 8 Houston Astros $92,551,503 9 Atlanta Braves $90,156,876 10 San Francisco Giants $90,056,419

Highest Paid Player

Alex Rodriguez Alex Rodriguez at the age of 18 became the youngest player in 10 years to play n the MLB. Two years later he almost won the Most Valuable Player award. He achieved the 40 – 40 feat over 40 homers and over 40 stolen bases. Also hit his 100 th career home run the same year he also had 42 home runs the highest number of home runs in a season. He is also the highest paid player in sports history of America with a pay role of 2recoard 52 million. 2002 he became the youngest player to reach the 250 home run mark. 2005 he broke the Yankee stadium record of 25 home runs with 26 home runs. Then went and become the youngest player to reach 400 home r uns. Then hit his 500 th home run in 2007 but was criticized because he used performance enhancing drugs. So I don’t believe he should get this salary.

Baseball not only a mans game.

Women of Baseball That’s right, women from small towns once played semi-pro softball. There were rules that stated that every female player must wear a skirt, high heels and makeup on the field. They drew millions to their games for even the war could not stop baseball. Some were even as good as the pros. Joanne Weaver hit.429 and won the batting title three years in a row. Tina Cob averaged 100 stolen bases a year and once stole 201 bases out of 203 attempts. Jean Faut won three pitching championships with two no- hitters and this was all started by Philip Wrigley, the Chicago owner at the time.

The Minor Leagues of Baseball

Minor League Baseball There are three types of minor leagues the A, AA, AAA. The minor league hit its boom after WW2 there were 59 different leagues and 42 million fans. The Creator of this was Branch Rickey how was working in the St. Louis Cardinal’s front office he thought that it would be easier to grow your own players then buy talent from other teams.

You could ask any big leaguer that played Minor League ball and they would say it was a good time. Don’t think that the Minor Leagues do not get noticed. When they had a movie made about the Durham Bulls from North Carolina it doubled there team’s price from 2500 in 1979 to what it is valued at now 2 million dollars. Dan Dixon

Black baseball heroes Satchel Paige Cool Papa Bell Jackie Robinson

White and Black Baseball Before black’s where allowed in baseball there where two leagues one for blacks and one for whites. There is one time when these to leagues meets which is in off season games the blacks won 309 of these games while the whites only won 129 of the games.

There where some good players from the black league like Satchel Paige and Cool Papa Bell and the most famous of all Jackie Robinson. What would baseball be with out these players. 1922 Monarchs

NHL Salary Cap The NHL players salary can not go above the Cap or to the minimum of the cap. The salary cap in the NHL is a hard cap like the NFL. There salary cap is set by a certain percent of revenues sold each year like jerseys and other NHL relate. Many players say they would be cheated if it weren’t for the salary cap. Salary Cap

Highest paid player Vincent Lecavalier is the highest played player in the NHL with a salary at 10,000,000. He is a Two Time All – Star Player with one Stanley Cup Champion under his belt in my opinion he does not deserve this salary because there are players that have won the Stanley Cup more then once and does not have a salary like this one.
