2 1960 The Flintstones The Flintstones first show was on September 30 th, 1960. The Flintstones was the first and longest animated comedy show on prime TV. The show gained high ratings in the first season. Produced by Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera. Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera also produced other famous cartoons like, Scooby-Doo, Top Cat, The Smurfs, Yogi Bear, The Jetsons, and Tom and Jerry. The Producers originally named the show The Flagstones then changed it to The Gladstones but finally settled with The Flintstones. Fred and Wilma had a baby Dino and a saber tooth tiger as the family dog and cat.

3 1960 Continued Fred Flintstone, one of the main characters was based on a man named Jackie Gleason who played on the Honeymooners. In 1962 Wilma and Fred had a baby girl named Pebbles and Barney and Betty adopted a baby boy named Bamm Bamm. The show ran for six years. When the show cancelled a movie called “The Man Called Flintstone was made. The show rebroadcast with NBC in 1967. Flintstones still come on TV today and they even have there own cereal called Fruity Pebbles.

4 1961 Ernie Davis Ernest Davis was born on December 14, 1939 in New Salem, Pennsylvanian. Ernie was a very athletic. He played numerous sports Ernie Syracuse and played football His football team went undefeated. Syracuse won the Cotton Bowl and the Liberty Bowl and Ernie Davis was the MVP for both games. Ernie Davis was the first African American to win and Heisman Trophy. He was also the first African American to be choose 1 st overall in the NFL.

5 1961 Continued Ernie went to the NFL but never played a game because he was diagnosed with leukemia. He died on May 18, 1968 at age 23. Syracuse retired his jersey #44 and the Cleveland Brown retired his jersey #45 In 2008 a movie called The Express was based on his life.

6 1962 James Meredith James Meredith was born on June 6, 1933 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. He severed in the air force from 1951 to 1960. After severing in the air force he went to an all black college called Jackson State University for two years James Meredith attempted to enroll in the University of Mississippi but he got denied twice, so he filed an complaint. His allegations were denied because the color of his skin and he was denied by the district court. But the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court reversed the ruling and it was agreed the he was dined because he was African American

7 1962 Continued His enrollment was opposed by the governor of Mississippi, Ross Barnett. Threats were made to Meredith so Robert Kennedy had to send 5,000 federal marshals. Riots broke out and 160 federal marshal were wounded and two bystanders were killed. James Meredith graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1962 and became the first African American to graduate from the university.

8 1963 16th Baptist Church Bombing On September 15 th, 16 th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama was bombed. The church was a place where civil right leaders would have there meetings. The bomb killed four young girls and wounded twenty- three other people. An week later witness said a white man got out his car and placed a box under the stairs. The mans name was Robert Chambliss, a member of the Ku Klux Klan. He was arrested and charged with murder and possession of 122 sticks of dynamite.

9 1963 Continued On October 8 th, 1963 he found not guilty for the murder of the four girls but, received a hundred dollar fine and six months in jail. On November 1967 Robert Chambliss at the age of 73 went back to court and this time was found guilty and sentenced life in prison.

10 1964 Chimpanzee Heart Transplant January 23, 1964 was the very first animal to human heart transplant. The operation was on Body Rush. Body Rush was admitted in to the medical center for an heart transplant but, there was no immediate heart available. Dr. James Hardy use the heart from a chimpanzee named Bino. The heart transplant was a success but the heart was to small and couldn’t maintain the blood. 90 minutes later Body Rush died

11 1964 Continued Between 1964 and 1977 four adults with transplanted hearts from a chimpanzee, baboon, or a sheep only lived for at least three in half days. In 1984 at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Southern California an infant named Baby Fae ha received a baboon heart and lived for twenty days.

12 1965 Malcolm X Malcolm was born on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. Malcolm X last name was really Little but he changed it to X to symbolize his stolen African identity. He was an leader of a militant black nationalist movement On February 21, 1965 while Malcolm was making a speech 3 men rushed on stage and fired fifteen shots. Malcolm was shot seven times and three other African Americans were shot. The three shooters were members of the Nation of Islam.

13 1965 Continued In March 1966 the three men were found guilty and convinced for murder.

14 1966 Star Trek On September 8 th, 1966 star trek first airs. Star Trek is an American science fiction TV series. Star Trek was created by Gene Roddenberry. The show was produced by Desilu Production. Then later produced by Paramount Television. Star Trek was premiered on NBC. The first episode of Star Trek was called “The Trapped Man” After three seasons and seventy-nine episodes NBC cancelled the show because of low ratings. The show ran for three years (1966 to 1969).

15 1966 Continued In the 1970s it became a cult classical which lead to five additional series, eleven films, various book, games, and many other products

16 1967 Super Bowl I The very first super bowl was played in 1967, The super bowl was inspired by Lamar Hunt, the architect and owner of the Kansas City Chiefs when he had to go to his daughters super ball. The Green Bay Packers(13-2) and the Kansas City Chiefs(12-2-1) played in the very first super bowl. The game was played in Los Angles in front of 61,949 fans. Green Bay Packers Body Bowler had got hurt earlier in the game and so Max McGee, the backup wide receiver who did get much playing time in the regular season had to play in the super bowl.

17 1967 Continued Max McGee caught seven passes for a total of 138 yards and two touchdowns. The Green Bay Packers won the super bowl (35-10). The MVP was the Packer quarterback Bart Starr. Ever Green Bay Packer player got a $15,000 bonus for winning the game. And every Chiefs player got $7,500 bonus.

18 1968 Will Smith On September 25 th, 1968 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Will Smith was born. His real name is Willard Smith Jr. At 12 years old Will started rapping. At age of 16 Will met a DJ named Jeff Townes. They became friends and that is how DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince was formed. Fresh Prince rapped clean curse-free that people thought was a very entertaining. When they dropped there first album “Rock the House” I it Billboard top 200. The album made Will a millionaire before he was even 18.

19 1968 Continued In the 1990s Will started acting and stare in “Fresh Prince of Bel Air”. Wills First marriage lasted for three years which was in 1992 and his first son Willard Smith III was born. In 1997 he married Jada Pinkett They have two kids Jaden and Willow Smith.

20 1969 Sesame Street On November 10 th, 1969 Sesame Street first aired. Sesame Street is an educational show that teaches young children the fundamentals of reading, the letters of the alphabets, numbers, and shapes. Sesame Street was produced by Jim Henson. When Sesame Street first aired Elmo, the main character in Sesame Street was not in the first episode. Elmo didn’t appear until the twelfth season. Oscar the Grouch was actually orange not green. Grover was actually brown not blue.

21 1969 Continued On the very first show Gordon, who was the very first live actor on Sesame Street takes Sally on a tour of Sesame Street. Kermit the frog gave a speech on the letter “W”. Sesame Street has aired in 120 countries and more than 20 international versions have been made. More then 74 million Americans have watched Sesame Street Sesame Street is very popular today.
