2 Man Ray August 27, 1890–November 18, 1976 American Dada and Surrealist artist Born Emmanuel Radnitzky in Philly & raised in Brooklyn Family changed name from Radnitzky to Ray due to anti- semitism “Manny” condensed name to Man…thus Man Ray Had scholarship for architecture but chose studio art In 1918, photography became successful medium for Man Ray Friends with famous DADA artist Marcel Duchamp Helped establish the artistic group of American DADA artists the “Others” Moved to France in 1921 Created photograms technique which he called Rayograms http://www.manraytrust.com/
