4 I.1. What is time management? Smith (1994)- Time: “ a continuum in which events succeed one another from past through present to future” “controlling your life means controlling your time, and controlling your time means controlling the events in your life”

(1) Being the most important. Second, list the amount of hours you estimate that you spend per week doing each activity. Third, keep track of the number of hours that you actually spend doing each activity. This will allow you assess the differences you perceive in the amount of time you actually spend on activities versus what you thought you were spending. It will also allow you to look at these areas and take some control of your time!

Time management strategies o Set regular study periods o Study in an environment that is relatively free of distractions and interruptions o Schedule tasks so they can be accomplished in 30-60 minutes blocks of time. o Take short breaks o Be specific in identifying how you plan to use your time. o Alternate subjects when you have a long time block available for study. o Estimate the time needed for each assignment. o Prioritize tasks o Do the assignment for the course you dislike first. o Work ahead off your assignment when possible o Carry your calendar with you write down any appointment.

Procrastination: The behavior of postponing tasks o Do you delay starting assignments? o Are you late handing in assignments? o Do you tend to wait for the last minute to complete assignments? o Are you often late for appointments? o Do you often underestimate the amount of time needed to complete a task?
