3 EDUC 260: Week 13 The Course Designed for current and future K-12 teachers Partly about mastering computing technologies that are used in schools Partly about understanding the ideas and problems that shape how computing technologies get used in schools Partly about learning to design meaningful uses of computing technologies for K-12 classrooms

4 EDUC 260: Week 14 Learning to Teach with Computer Technology We know that: It takes progressive refinement It takes a long time (years, not weeks or months) Few teachers do it alone –Most have ongoing support from peers in their schools, administration, and the surrounding community.

5 EDUC 260: Week 15 Course Goals Learn the basics of how computers work Learn about common computer applications found in schools today Feel comfortable about trying new things with computing and networking technologies Experience technology in your own learning Begin developing a critical stance on uses of technology in schools ■ Online and class discussions ■ Position paper

6 EDUC 260: Week 16 Accomplished Through A combination of Discussions Labs Mastery assignments Readings, research and written work …all intended to develop your understanding of computing technology and its use in schools

7 EDUC 260: Week 17 Assessments No final exam! 4 - Reading responses (4 x 5% = 20%) 5 - Assignments (60%) ■ 2 x 5% = 10% ■ 1 x 10% = 10% ■ 2 x 20% = 40% Position paper (20%)

8 EDUC 260: Week 18 Expectations Regular and timely class attendance and participation Individual work and accountability Timely assignment submissions - Late assignments deducted at a rate of 10% PER DAY. Unless prior arrangements are made, assignments are due by midnight prior to class Assignments will be handed back the following week in class

9 EDUC 260: Week 19 Support We will give you as much time as possible to work on your technical projects in class, but... You will need to spend additional time in this lab 1 day per week on campus will not be enough, unless you are technically self-sufficient We can only support you technically if you work in the CET using the applications we know
