2 P IRANHA S OLUTIONS extremely energetic and may result in explosion or skin burns if not handled with extreme caution traditionally 3:1 H 2 SO 4 and 30% H 2 O 2 used to remove organic residues from substrates

3 H ANDLING P IRANHA Always use glass (preferably Pyrex) containers Prepare in a hood; wear rubber gloves and eye protection Always add the hydrogen peroxide to the acid The mixture is likely to become hot (>100 ºC); handle with care

4 H ANDLING P IRANHA Leave the hot solution in an open container until cool Mixing hot piranha with organic compounds (such as acetone, isopropyl alcohol and photoresists) might cause an explosion Never store piranha solutions, mix fresh solution for each use

5 In case of skin contact, flush the skin with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention. In case of eye contact, flush contaminated eye(s) immediately with copious quantities of water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention immediately. E MERGENCY P ROCEDURES
