SRioGRN  Las Cruces has operated a GPS Continuous Operating Reference Station (CORS) for more than 10 years.  July 2006, the City of Las Cruces upgraded its CORS  Trimble NetRS with Zephyr Geodetic Mark II Antenna and GPSNet software

SRioGRN  Speed of this technology is enhanced by linking a base to a rover by cellular communication in lieu of radio  Link by cellular increases range from 5 miles to 50 miles  Accuracy is enhanced by linking reference stations to a CORS and base

Benefits of RTN  Network solutions improvements over longer baselines  If properly implemented will provide consistent, verifiable and rapid results  Solutions are non-proprietary and in industry-standards formatting  Common datum  Different databases will fit together  Sub-centimeter accuracies

Benefit to the City  A service to public as is gas, sewer, water and solid waste services  Cost recovery through Memberships and Subscriptions  Network is not subsidized by tax/rate payers  Extend service area beyond city limits  Common datum

Public and Private RTN  Simple data sharing  Not seen as in competition  Private networks are not typically for profit  Private networks are usually vendors and offer networks as a value-added amenity  Currently working with co-operative data sharing agreements with a private network and partnership participants.

Access to RTN  Membership or Subscriptions  Authentication and Authorization to access FTP servers  Non-proprietary signal  Data files are available for all to download  No Warranties

Practical Example LAN Address: 192.168.1.1 WAN Address: 24.120.216.1 LAN Address: 192.168.1.10 Cellphone is put into Internet mode with TSCe TSCe now has a Private IP address Request from TSCe is made to connect to 24.120.216.1 on Port 9000 LAN Address WAN Address Telco router passes request through the Internet to the office Gateway/Router Gateway/Router passes request using port forwarding to GPSBase machine GPSBase machine sends back data type being used on Port 9000 through the network and back to rover Rover in the field with cellular modem and TSC2

Future of SRioGRN  Very successful co-operative Washington State Reference Network  DOT Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, North Carolina  Private Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Florida ….  Use as a cluster in a statewide network
