1 Driving IT Transformation
S. Sridhar Director & General Manager, Enterprise Solutions Group, Dell India

2 A lot is happening with IT…
2X of CXOs expect to see a significant or complete IT overhaul in the next three years $241 billion cloud spending by 2020 70% X86 server virtualization will double from 40% to 80% by 2016 CEOs who involve the CIO in business strategy recognize superior financial performance vs. their peers of CXOs say their company will increasingly use IT as a commodity service to be bought and sold when needed 2.5 Quintillion 2:1 43% bytes of data being created every day 46% of CIOs plan to make workflow changes to better incorporate mobility into the business 68% of server-related expense was on management in 2012 50X Rate of growth of managed data in the next decade

3 What is the transformation expected from IT ?
Moment Engagement Freedom Diversity Mash-ability Disaggregation Collective Intelligence Community Experimentation Opt-In Serendipity Intrinsic Rewards Open Scale Adaptability Scale Management Control Standardization Specialization Centralization Expertise Hierarchy Alignment Conformance Predictability Extrinsic Rewards Closed Efficiency Innovation Discipline Engagement Today Tomorrow

4 But, what are you faced with ???
Do more with less Static or shrinking budgets while demands continue to grow and resources become more scarce $$ Unprecedented complexity Managing the myriad of IT complexities and technologies ? Overtaxed resources Keeping up with the scale and skill mix required to run their environments Increased enablement Delivering services and applications anywhere through the cloud Increased threat Securing the network and the data True 24/7 Delivering access anywhere, at any time, on any device Managing IT in the digital era is complex, add to that a convergence of business and IT….and the result is IT resources that are maxed out, unable to get it all done. Budges are shrinking, complexity is rampant, demands are growing faster than IT leaders can plan, manage, and execute with traditional solutions…in many organizations, 80% of IT spend is focused on “keeping the lights on”. Downtime hurts you and your end users. Complexity is increasing when you consider the many proprietary and non-proprietary solutions that exist. How do you move towards the cloud ? How do you handle security threats, and how do you monitor your operations around the clock with these complexities and often limited staff ? Let us take a look at few examples of organizations that adopted disruptive technologies in the accelerating rate of change to rethink the way their business operated. In any enterprise-wide change initiative, it’s essential to focus on improving the efficiency of your operations while adapting to marketplace and technology shifts.

5 Get over the spiral and transform
Past investments Respond faster The technology you already own The performance your organization needs Conflict Complexity Lower cost The next phase of IT brings with it many challenges The conflict is between the infrastructure an organization already has (“the past”) and what they must do to survive and thrive going forward (“The future”) There are many issues, but the most common are: Silos of IT that are owned or managed by different areas of the organization (politics) or silos created by the deployment of some new technology that is efficient internally – within the silo – but still needs to be purchased, powered, cooled, managed, updated and integrated Lack of agility – complexity in IT is directly related to responsiveness. Greater complexity = lower responsiveness Every organization wants to get the most out of what they have already purchased (Legacy). But it is difficult to know the inflection point where legacy infrastructure is no longer performing, or becomes too costly to be integrated with newer technologies Complexity is rampant – it is difficult to manage and afford different versions of hardware, software, etc. and it is difficult to converge the overall management of them Lower cost servers made it easy to apply the “one app per server” approach. This often leaves hundreds, even thousands of servers, all running at low utilization (under 25%) levels, yet still needing to be managed, powered and cooled IT transformation takes special skills and experience. Many organizations don’t have the time, processes, strategy , staff or expertise to undertake meaningful IT transformation

6 How do we approach it : Leveraging what you have, your approach and vendor strategies matter
High Agile, efficient, scalable New & proprietary Greater IT agility & reliability Breakthrough efficiency & performance Solutions that scale OpEx savings consumed by costly solutions Lock-in penalty OpEx CapEx OpEx CapEx Operational efficiency CapEx OpEx OpEx CapEx Complex & monolithic Lock-in with no scalability Low cost commodity components No value add For a long time now, Dell has delivered better value at every level, in every product and solution category. But to illustrate this idea, let’s compare Dell to the other models that are out there from competitors The ultimate goal of IT, and any department in a company for that matter, is to create value for the organization. If it is not creating value it should not survive. So today the IT department is NOT in the business of managing hardware or software….it is in the business of delivering the services that help the organization reach its mission, to respond on demand, and to control costs. LEGACY companies like IBM (Bottom Left BOX) have a great incentive to protect old hardware so they can focus on the more profitable software and services part of their business They have a vested interest in complexity This approach makes IT expensive to buy and run, and difficult to understand or scale Other competitors like HP (Bottom Righ Box) have commoditized the hardware. Dell has done this too. But simply having a collection of hardware and software tools that are not integrated or rationalized make it all difficult to deploy, manage, change and grow. So while the hardware might be cost effective (CapEx), the expense to operate it offer the short- and long-term is very high Newer entrants to the field like Cisco (Top left Box), with its popular UCS solution, gain traction because a bundled solution seems at the onset to be a pretty easy way to deploy large blocks of infrastructure. The problem is that general purpose racks of hardware, with separate storage and unfamiliar management tools, only solve the short-term issue (getting more capacity), but fail to solve the larger issue that can only be solved the Dell way through standardization, scalability, and holistic manageability. So while OpEx might decrease because there is less to configure, the CapEx is higher because you have to replace infrastructure in chunks. Dell simply has a better strategy We drive better CapEx through the commodization and standardization of everything in the infrastructure AND by driving automation and manageability (OpEx) across not only Dell solutions but those of competitors too. Dell is focusing on making IT the engine of efficiency, flexibility and growth for the organization Commodity with services Legacy Low Low Agility & scalability High

7 Dell agile, efficient & scalable architecture
Existing IT Network-interconnected pool of resources Applications/platforms Agile, efficient & scalable architecture Transformation Services 1 2 Business-class connected device solutions Secure, connected and managed heterogeneous end-points SaaS, PaaS, IaaS Cloud delivery & management 4 A ubiquitous extension of the datacenter 3 Intelligent converged Infrastructure & private cloud Return to app-driven architecture Information management 5 Data-driven decision making – the goal of Information Technology We have a very clear vision of how to transform IT so that our customers can become the agile and efficient engine of growth for their organization. A few lucky organizations get to start from scratch, so they can leverage the latest and greatest technologies on high-performing and standardized platforms. But most have to transition incrementally to a better state. In nearly every organization, their existing IT consists of a hodgepodge of tools, software, brands, platforms, and processes, supported by a disconnected IT staff that possesses widely varying ranges of skills Moving to a more agile and efficient – as well as more cost effective – infrastructure takes some standard steps. These steps also represent Dell’s strategy. Put a different way, these are the core areas that we focus on to help our customers deliver transformative agility and efficiency Some customers must start at the first step – moving from old, underperforming or outdated platforms to new ones. In most cases, these platforms were never designed for today’s IP-based platforms. And let’s be honest, the people that run these platforms are retiring. Dell transformation services, aided by great acquisitions like Make and Clerity, help make the transformation process simpler, faster, and with less disruption. The next step is to empower a more mobile workforce for anytime, anywhere, and any device access, as well as empowering IT to manage it. This is where Dell client innovation delivers solutions that are built for business, and offer: The most manageable business-class devices, that are & centrally controlled via tools like KACE and WYSE More security with comprehensive endpoint solutions via SecureWorks threat management, PowerConnect W secure mobility, SonicWall network protection & remote access, identity management through Quest, WYSE virtual desktop management, and encryption via Dell’s own DDPE Greater reliability through military-grade performance tested, better responsiveness & battery life and customer support And making cloud client computing a reality through Wyse software that is easy to manage from one central location Add to this our software and services to develop & modernize mobility apps, and to optimize mobility infrastructure via app delivery & hosting, on-boarding & guest access, VDI appliance & hosting, backup & recovery, high-performance wireless & switching And of course, we always offer a wide array of award winning end points: Dell Wyse Thin and Zero clients, Dell Latitude PCs, Dell Precision Workstations and Dell XPS tablets – as well as connectivity to any end point / pre- existing end point your end users may have. Next we’re driving solutions to increase data center agility and efficiency It starts with end-to-end integration, of intuitive, flexible & comprehensive management tools that automate, streamline, flexible and increase scalability. This is where Quest, Active Infrastructure, Creator, OpenManage fit in It also includes different ways to get infrastructure, such as our pre-validated & pre-integrated solutions & templates like vStart, Active System 800, Converged Blade data center, and Modular data center solutions Deep partner integration with VMware, Microsoft, and others is another key component. And all of this sits on a base of modular & scalable systems like: PowerEdge 12G, the highest performing & most manageable server architecture on the market World’s most cost-effective and agile storage platforms that are non-disruptive, deliver the best TCO, and provide advanced & automated tiering through solutions like EqualLogic, Compellent, and PowerVault The most efficient networking architecture from Force10 and PowerConnect, delivering scalable high- performance fabrics, integrated automation and designed for value And unified app & cloud management, through The industry's most comprehensive cloud portfolio, where we help customers Build, operate, integrate or use App orchestration, monitoring & performance management tools like Quest And app modernization & rehosting tools from Services using Make and Clerity Enabling data-driven information is the next focus area. It isn’t just about storage anymore. Here Dell’s strategy is to automatically and intelligently optimize data everywhere by: Virtualizing and optimizing the storage, not just the servers. Dell PowerVault and Dell EqualLogic are specifically designed to maximize productivity in virtual environments. Breaking through the data integration barriers with great integration tools like Boomi that can integrate on-premise and off-premise data in just about any format. Converging and collapsing silos of storage and pooling them to lower costs using EqualLogic and Dell PowerVault And by addressing the whole picture. Not just technology like some solutions, but also the people and processes using Plug ins to Microsoft System Center and Vmware, as well as Dell storage management tools Next, customers need to automate the complexity of data management. This is where Compellent comes in with self- optimizing and powerful core storage Customers also need application migration and connectivity tools,   This is where Make and Clerity come in to help modernize and rehost legacy apps, and where Quest’s Microsoft application migration suite provides the most comprehensive set of capabilities to help our customers get there.  Finally Dell’s security portfolio has expanded in a major way. Our solutions focus on three key issues Security & compliance, to provide Proactive security and risk management that is more cost-effective Smarter & efficient defenses vial Solutions and threat intelligence that dynamically respond to new threats & improve efficiency And security innovation to Enable productivity by embracing new technology and security that works with that new technology Dell Identity & Access management is provided by Quest and SecureWorks. Unified threat management comes from SonicWALL. And encryption from Dell Data Protection Encryption or DDPE Security 6 Secure from code design to intrusion protection

9 The 4 key pillars of IT transformation : Helping you grow & thrive
The power to do more Driving greater operational efficiency and accelerating results We have a very clear vision of how to transform IT so that our customers can become the agile, efficient and scalable engine of growth for their organization. In nearly every organization, their existing IT consists of a hodgepodge of tools, software, brands, platforms, and processes, supported by a disconnected IT staff that possesses widely varying ranges of skills Moving to a more agile, efficient and scalable – as well as more cost effective – infrastructure takes some standard steps. These steps also represent Dell’s strategy. Put a different way, these are the core areas that we focus on to help our customers deliver transformative agility and efficiency One important step is to empower a more mobile workforce for anytime, anywhere, and any device access, as well as empowering IT to manage I It also includes simplified and converged management of physical, virtual, converged and cloud infrastructure, as well as automating the complexity of data management and easy-to-use application migration and connectivity tools Dell Services recognizes and embraces the changing IT landscape and we bring a differentiated approach to help our customers transform to next generation capabilities. We design our services to be modular in nature, and that are focused on speed to value rather than being forced into a rigid model.
