3 “Divide and Conquer” Registrar will not let us do TEL591 Select 12 topic areas (from list of 22+) that are normally covered in TEL381/TEL581 and give 4 each to the 6 registered students (formed into 3 teams of 2) In a rotating fashion, each student team researches, prepares lecture notes, lab and homework assignments plus potential exam questions and answers covering their assigned topic area Lecture is delivered by team to fellow students; everyone does lab and homework assignments Final exam at the end of the semester with everyone’s questions

8 Grading Team (and Each Student’s) Grade Based Upon: –Quality of Topic Area Material Produced ---- 50% Lecture Slides (0-10) Suggested Lab Assignments (0-10) Suggested Homework Assignments (0-10) 15 Suggested Exam Questions and Answers (0-10) –Class Participation ---- 20% Attendance Completed Lab and Homework Assignments Plus Suggestions For Improvement Questions Asked in Class –Final Exam ---- 20% Student-developed Questions (0-100) –Team Evaluation ---- 10% Divide 100 Points Between 2 (or 3) Team Members Cannot Be 50-50 (1/3 – 1/3 – 1/3) Written Justification (Who Did What – Roles & Responsibilities)

10 Assistance I Will: –Provide Previous Labs For Examples –Give Suggestions of Areas to Be Covered Under Each Topic, If Requested –LOAN Textbooks and Other Resources –Critique Material Before Class If Desired and If Provided in a Timely Manner

11 Lecture Slides Team Will Research Topic Area Team Will Produce Slides Covering Important Areas Under Topic –15 to 50 slides –20 to 90 minutes Team Will Split up Presentation Duties (50-50) Format – Should Be Well Organized –Title Slide (Topic Area & Week) –Outline –Content –List of References Must be oriented toward Network Security/Information Assurance Cover most key topics students should know in area Get Them To Me As Soon As Possible Before or After Class Use Proper Format Split Presentation Evenly

12 Homework Assignment Team Will Develop 1 Homework Assignment for Each Topic Area Format –Homework Title –Homework Objective –What Needs to be Accomplished –What Needs to Be Handed In or Questions to be answered (Proof of Completion) –List of References Use Proper Format Questions Should Be From Lecture or Other Suggested Reading Get Them To Me As Soon As Possible Before or After Class There Should Be At Least 3 Questions Send ME the Answers and the References

13 Lab Assignment Team Will Develop 1 Lab for Each Topic Area Lab Will Require Minimal Use of Resources –PCs, Windows OS, Routers, Wireless APs, etc. Format – Explain in Detail What Student Should Learn and What is Required –Lab Title –Lab Objective –Steps to be performed –Questions to be answered (Proof of Completion) –List of References Use Proper Format Should Be Something That Reinforces What Was Covered in Class Get Them To Me As Soon As Possible Before or After Class Answer Using Format –Objective –Steps Performed –What Happened/What Did I Learn? Send ME What They Should Find/Learn

14 Exam Questions Team Will Produce 15 Exam Questions For Each Topic Area Questions Will Be of Sufficient Detail and Complexity Questions May Be a Mixture of True/False, Multiple Choice, Short Answer or Essay –Should Not Be All One (or Two) Types Format –Question –Correct Answer (And Why) –Reference(s) (i.e., Harris Text, page 234) At Least 15 Questions, A Mixture of Types Get Them To Me As Soon As Possible Before or After Class Reference for Each One
