4 The 4 areas to consider for ROI
Productivity Quality Legal Materials

5 Productivity

6 Health Information Management Areas
Processing, Coding and Release of Information: No more scanning paper charts in to the EMR Centricity Perinatal is the Legal Record for all Women Center Documentation Less time spent looking for deficiencies on paper Electronic signatures took the place of the illegible signatures on paper and required physician documentation forms were created in Centricity Perinatal Coders spend less time looking for data Electronic Physician Documentation improved the quality of the data Support provider coding efforts Documentation is easy to print for patients requesting a copy of the chart Patient story is in one system

7 Nursing Decreased charting time, increased patient care hours:
Centricity Perinatal is easily navigated with fluid charting Charting can be accomplished in a precise, timely manner and the nurse is able to spend more time providing patient care. Employee training 90% of new employees in the Women Center have been exposed or documented in Centricity Perinatal at a previous hospital and require minimal training Recalling patient data from previous visits For returning patients, Centricity Perinatal allows for the nurse to view previous admission history and make changes as needed.

8 Nursing Past and Present Documentation:
Providers can view data and document from home or office. Fetal Monitor Strip, Vital signs and documentation is stored and available for caregivers to review for trends and assist provider with Plan of Care. Streamlining of documentation allows for easy documentation Pre-built chart audits to help identify any data that the nurse forgot to document Vital Signs flow directly in Centricity Perinatal Mother-Baby link saves time for the nursery nurse and pediatrician to review maternal history Pediatricians can also view this data from the office

9 System Manager Building in Centricity Perinatal
Less time spent making changes to forms, charts or print templates Building new forms takes less time and requires fewer steps Customized chalkboards and views Clinical and Technical support are immediately available to help with any issues that arise GE Healthcare has “Live” people that you can talk to and they will stay with you until the problem is solved Centricity Perinatal Support is a definite time saver for my site and I can’t say enough about this benefit CPNUG can be a time saving tool for system managers System Managers share policies, forms, computed items, new chalkboards and anything else that you can imagine Opportunities to ask questions to other users and network with CPN users

10 Quality Department Abstraction:
Centricity Perinatal is the Legal Record for all Women Center Documentation Less time spent looking for deficiencies Electronic signatures took the place of the illegible signatures on paper Coders spend less time looking for data Electronic Physician Documentation improved the quality of the data and reduced the time for coding and billing Documentation is easy to print for patients requesting a copy of the chart Patient story in one system

11 Quality

12 Documentation Consistent Data:
Many of our Meaningful Use items come from Centricity Perinatal and are interfaced to Meditech® Compliance for entering MU items in Centricity Perinatal was higher than items documented in the main EMR Discreet data fields Core Measure documentation in Centricity Perinatal has increased in accuracy with the use of computed document reminders and calculations to define eligible patients. Exclusive breastfeeding can be easily reviewed based on computed text items and reason for induction can trigger the physician to document on the item

13 Documentation Joint Commission:
Forms and charts are built from Joint Commission guidelines In a recent survey, Joint Commission told administration that “we had the best OB documentation system that they have seen.” The surveyors were impressed with the organization of the documentation and the ease that the nurses were able to navigate through Centricity Perinatal Physician and Nursing documentation in one system removes the issues of illegible delivery and progress notes Physician documentation has greatly improved in quality and data, since going electronic

14 Legal

15 Safeguards Building in Safeguards:
Computed items to calculate FHR categories, EGA, etc Use computed text to guide staff on next steps to take (stop Pitocin, continue monitoring, etc). Create reminders for staff to document on specific items for example (shoulder dystocia, prolapsed cord, neonatal death) In a crisis situation, a nurse may forget to go back and document items and these reminders can assist with completing the legal record Physicians documenting in the same system can assist with identifying typographical errors and notify the nurse, so the charting remains consistent and accurate Documenting on the FMS to show the exact time interventions occurred and what steps were taken Enable providers to reduce errors

16 The Birth Story Putting the story together:
Antepartum, False Labor, NST’s, Probable ROM, Motor Vehicle Accident, PIH Centricity Perinatal has all of the pregnancy events captured in one spot. There is no need to sort through multiple records and view paper EFM strips because it is all in one place. Caregivers can review trends and significant history without the hassle of changing systems. Labor, Delivery, Postpartum The “story” is collaboratively documented by members of the healthcare team including, nurses, physicians, lactation consultants, respiratory therapist, social workers, and hearing screeners. The record is an accurate representation of the mother and the baby(s) journey. Documentation in one system can show the true timeline of events and play a vital role when legal review is needed
