1. ♦ National Delta Tau Alpha newsletter ♦ February 2005 ♦ Meet your National Advisor Dr. Jean A. Gleichsner grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin where she was involved in the high school chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4-H. She went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she graduated with highest distinction, receiving B.S. degrees in Agriculture Education (1982) and Agronomy (1983). She then attended Oregon State University where she earned both a M.S. and Ph.D. in Weed Science in 1987 and 1988, respectively. Dr. Gleichsner joined the Agriculture Department at Fort Hays State University in 1988 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1994. Over the years, she has taught ten different courses. She has served as the Delta Tau Alpha (DTA) Chapter Co-Advisor (1989- 1993), Chapter Advisor (1993- present) and has served as the National DTA Advisor since 2003. She is actively involved in campus and community activities and was recognized for her service to the College of Health and Life Sciences in 1994, 1998, and 2002. She has also received several teaching awards. Dr. Gleichsner served a two-year term (1997-98) as President of the Kansas Association of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (KACTA). She served a two year term (1997-99) as Central Regional Director of the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA), Vice-President of NACTA (1999-2000) and President of NACTA (2000-2001). Dr. Gleichsner served as President of Phi Kappa Phi at FHSU (2001-2002) and is currently serving as Public Relations Officer. -Dr. Jean

2. Meet your National Advisor My name is Billy Bruce Greene and I spent the first 18 years of my life on a hillside farm in Upper East Tennessee where we raised cattle, hogs, and tobacco. The greatest influence on my life at that time was my grandfather who lived in easy walking distance from my house. I believe I owe much of my love for agriculture, extreme interest in old things, and tendency to behave like an old man since high school to him. I obtained my B.S. degree in Agriculture from Berea College in 1979. Some of my fondest memories and best experiences occurred while at Berea College. It was a great time of learning and social development for me, once I recovered from the shock of being away from home and using public showers and bathrooms for the first time. I majored in the animal science concentration with aspirations of attending Vet School, but was not admitted. I obtained my MS. and Ph.D. degrees at The University of Tennessee after graduating from Berea College. That was also a great learning experience and my first experience at a large university in a big town. I had real trouble negotiating those one-way streets. I met my wife, Nancy, there and married her in 1983. We have two children, Mary who is 17 and Andy who is 15. Nancy and I moved to Louisiana after graduation from The University of Tennessee and I worked for 6 years on an agricultural experiment station for Louisiana State University. We had both our children in Louisiana and made lots of good friends, but sort of got homesick for our parents and Tennessee. We decided to apply for a teaching job at Tennessee Tech University in 1990 and moved back to Middle Tennessee (which is the next best thing to East Tennessee) in 1991. We have been working at Tennessee Tech for 13 years now, where I teach courses in Animal Science. It has been a pleasure to work with the local Delta Tau Alpha chapter at Tennessee Tech and make acquaintances and develop relationships with advisors and students from other colleges and universities at the national conventions. I am very excited about working with the National Council and hope that my performance as national treasurer will meet your expectations.

3. We have a team participating in our Knowledge Bowl and we ordered T- Shirts. We also formed a committee to set the dinner for the event. We also plan to send out invitation letters to potential members. We are preparing for the trip to National Convention! Also preparing for our next fundraiser of selling lunch at the Poetry Gathering. We are having fundraisers to raise money to pay for our trip to National Convention. We initiated new members this month and hold our annual Ag Quiz Bowl on March 1 st. We are also making plans for fundraisers to help with the cost of transportation to National Convention. We Attended the Academic Honor Banquet this month. We are preparing to participate in the Missouri State Beautification Month of April by conducting two trash pick-ups.
