Structure of the front-end DAQ for DIS PARITY in Hall A Bogdan Wojtsekhowski with Bob Michaels and Albert Shahinyan Jlab, 12/1/ 2006 The issues: e/pi rejection online, stability Examples of PID from HRS, BigBite Expected performance, examples from HRS, RCS Schematic, cost, manpower, timescale Left arm improvements, cost The issues: e/pi rejection online, stability Examples of PID from HRS, BigBite Expected performance, examples from HRS, RCS Schematic, cost, manpower, timescale Left arm improvements, cost

Structure of HRS detector packages Jlab, 12/1/ 2006

Shower PID for HRS detector Jlab, 12/1/ 2006

Shower Calorimeter in the RCS experiment Jlab, 12/1/ 2006

Shower trigger and PID in the BigBite GEN package Jlab, 12/1/ 2006

On-line PID wiring with available electronics

Concept of the PID with shower detectors Low TotalHigh Total High preShower electrons pions preShower amplitude Shower amplitude

Shower PID - software emulator by Bob Michaels Jlab, 12/1/ 2006 Data from E99-117, the ratio e/ ~ 23 If A ~ 0.1, and ratio e/ ~ 10 with factor R~10 4 -> A ~ 10 -5 (assuming 10% accurate correction for pion A) standard HRS analysis: R ~ 2 x10 5

Concept of the electronic diagram

List of NIM electronics and cost

Summary Required R{e/ will be possible to get with NIM + scalers. Time scale of six months to construct and test electronics. Best option is just 20% most complicated than minimum set. Modification of the Left arm cost $10k for glass and $40k for PMTs. Upgrade of detector in HRS-Left will help future DIS experiments. Required R{e/ will be possible to get with NIM + scalers.
