3. With the widespread implementation of hospital based newborn hearing screening programs, it has become apparent that standardized competency based materials are needed. The goal of this project is to develop educational materials for hearing screening personnel that will ensure a better understanding of the purpose of universal newborn hearing screening as well as assure that quality assurance measures are being met through efficient hearing screening practices. 5. Why is Standardized Training Needed? Training Impacts the quality of the screening which impacts: – Consistency – Specificity and sensitivity – Refer rates – Lost to follow up – Cost efficiency – Community confidence in the program

6. What is Competency Based Training? Learner centered – Self paced – Using multiple modes of instruction including print, audiovisual and simulations Skill based rather than time based Assessment of knowledge involves actual performance of the skill
