2 General paragraph MISSION The Academy for Government Accountability will forge relationships among government, business, academia and interested others to support research and education initiatives and advance thought leadership in bringing transparency and accountability to government financial management.

3 General paragraph THE ACADEMY: SOME BRIEF FACTS 501 (c) (3) organization Incorporated in Virginia since 1979 Original intent was to provide education and research services to the AGA Several projects have been completed over the years July 2002 Article " Aiming for Accuracy: Financial Managers Are Trying to Get More Timely and Useful Information to Decision-Makers"

4 General paragraph RESURRECTING THE ACADEMY In 2005, the Academy was reintroduced to the AGA National Executive Committee (NEC) with a revised mission Dr. Sri Ramamoorti, Partner, Grant Thornton was named Chair by the NEC AGA committed $200,000 to fund the Academy in supporting basic research projects – there's nothing so practical as a good theory (Kurt Lewin) Revised bylaws were presented and approved by the NEC in February 2006

5 General paragraph GOVERNANCE BOARD OF TRUSTEES No more than 24 members Must be a member of AGA Equal number of private and public sector individuals Trustee 3-year term, but may be reappointed Appoint Advisory Council Create strategies, policies and procedures Will evaluate recommendations for funding as submitted by Advisory Council Will select and notify the recipients of Academys research funds

8 General paragraph OPERATIONS ADVISORY COUNCIL Must be a member of AGA No more than 25 advisors 3 year term but may be reappointed Review and recommend to the Trustees projects for funding May not apply for funding while serving on the Advisory Council

9 General paragraph FIRST YEAR GOALS Develop long term strategy Develop criteria for reviewing proposals Collaborate with other research foundations on projects Form alliances with COSO bodies Sponsor 2 empirical research projects Award 1 Ph.D. dissertation grant

10 General paragraph LONG TERM GOALS Seek sustainable funding for the Academy through various sources Develop priorities for research proposals Promote research projects in journals and publications Use research projects to promote AGA and government financial management
