Corporations, the public sector, the community sector and SMEs are increasingly having to implement new IT.  Successful IS professionals are techno-savvy and also understand business strategies and imperatives.

10 Where do IS graduates go?  Graduates have a range of employment options, from business analysts and consultants, through to network managers and software designers.  Graduates work across many industry sectors, and not only in “IT jobs”.  Graduates often shift their interests and specialisations once in employment. 13 What is required to be successful in IT?  Strong problem solving skills, including a foundation in Mathematics.  Good communication skills, including the ability to work in a team.  The ability to think big and respond to a wide array of challenges.  A willingness to be meticulous with details.

14 2006 IAP awardee - Mandy Segal Internship period July-December 2006 Host: GE Money “GE Money needs to implement new security and change control procedures to manage the financial consolidation spreadsheets. The tasks will include evaluating the issues, performing a gap analysis, identifying a solution, and implementing into production. It will involve a lot of work with the Finance team. The student will be reporting to the IT Quality Black Belt and will have the use of the Quality Tools to help implement the solution.”

15 2006 IAP awardee - Lan lu Internship period July-December 2006 Host: IBM “At IBM GBS is involved in many various projects with clients across the every sector. Main tasks involved are data analysis, reporting back to top management how the business is progressing, tacking costs and revenue, improving efficiencies & automating analysis processes. Other tasks involve helping out at client sites, updating change requests, defect reporting, & project tracking.”
