3 New SEN Code of Practice is legally binding on: Local authorities (Education, Social Care, Housing, Employment and other services) Early Years providers Schools Further Education Colleges 6 th form Colleges Academies, including Free Schools Independent and Non-Maintained Special Schools Pupil Referral Units and other Alternative Provision NHS England Clinical Commissioning Groups NHS Trusts NHS Foundation Trusts Local Health Boards SEND Tribunals

4 Some parts of the new SEN Code are legally binding and some are just recommendations Where the Code states ‘must’ these sections are a statutory requirement Where the Code states ‘should’ these sections are considered best practice

5 We must have regard to: the views, wishes and feelings of the child or young person, and their parents; the importance of the child or young person, and their parents, participating as fully as possible in decisions; and being provided with the information and support necessary to enable participation in those decisions; the need to support the child or young person, and their parents, in order to facilitate the development of the child or young person and to help them achieve the best possible educational and other outcomes, preparing them effectively for adulthood.

6 In Bournemouth we are focusing on these key areas of change: The Local Offer Integrated Assessments Education, Health and Care Plans Joint planning and commissioning across Education, Health and Care We are working closely with Poole and Dorset

7 The future of statutory assessments We will make this a more positive experience for families We will meet with families at key points We will review and update Education Health and Care Plans to keep them live We will work in partnership with you
