2 What is LEED? LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices.

3 WHAT IS LEED? To receive LEED certification, building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. Prerequisites and credits differ for each rating system, and teams choose the best fit for their project.

4 NATIONAL TRENDS By 2015, an estimated 40-48% of new nonresidential construction by value will be green, equating to a $120-145 billion opportunity. U.S. respondents to a 2012 international survey projected that 58% of their building activities in 2015 would be green. More than 3.3 billion square feet of building space are LEED-certified (as of October 17, 2014). 41% of all nonresidential building starts in 2012 were green, as compared to 2% of all nonresidential building starts in 2005. LEED is referenced in project specifications for 71% of projects valued at $50 million and over.
