3 Positive impact of social connectedness on health and well-being. “As a rough rule of thumb, if you belong to no groups but decide to join one, you cut your risk of dying over the next year in half.” (Putnam, 2000, p.331). Group memberships are also important for: – Health and well-being. – Adjusting to life transitions. Social Connectedness, Health, and Well-being

4 The more groups players were members of before the programme transition, the more likely they were to: – (a) maintain those group memberships after the transition, – (b) identify with the new group and other group members, – (c) maintain their psychological well-being, and – (d) maintain their performance. 5 2 correlational studies. Questionnaires. Convenience sampling. 127 cricketers: – 110 male and 17 female. – 14-19 years old (M = 16.32, SD =.87 years). Players and Coaches from: – England Development Programme and County Academy Programme (Study 1). – Cricket Talent Testing (Study 2). Methodology

7 Group memberships are important for mental health and well-being in elite cricket. Predictor of adjustment to change following cricket programme transitions.
