2 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT RECRUITING STATISTICS SHOW THAT ONLY ONE OUT OF EVERY 100 WILL SIGN A COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE WHEN CONSIDERING THE COMPETITION AND LEVEL: ALABAMA HAS 4 MILLION PEOPLE IN THE ENTIRE STATE THE ATLANTA METRO AREA HAS OVER 4 MILLION ALONE THE STATE OF FLORIDA HAS OVER 26 MILLION BOTH ALABAMA AND AUBURN HAVE OVER 7 COMMITMENTS EACH FOR NEXT YEAR ALREADY ONLY 3 OF THE 15 COMMITMENTS ARE FROM THE STATE OF ALABAMA TROY RANKS 2 ND OF ALL DIVISION 1 SCHOOLS (116) IN THE NUMBER OF PLAYERS FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA OUTSIDE OF THOSE UNIVERSITIES IN FLORIDA

COLLEGES GENERALLY FOLLOW THE 3 P’S IN ORDER: PROFILE – SIZE, STRENGTH AND SPEED NATS TESTING ON MAY 23 PRODUCTION – FILM, COMBINES, AND CAMPS ACADEMIC QUALIFIER OR NOT POSITION – DO THEY HAVE A SPECIFIC NEED THERE - OR NOT MOST COLLEGES RANK PLAYERS ON A “BOARD” THERE IS A FILTERING SYSTEM FROM ONE DIVISION TO THE NEXT IDENTIFYING PROSPECTS BEGINS EARLIER EVERY YEAR

BLANKET RECRUITMENT A FILTERING SYSTEM BEGINS

10 SIGNING DAY (FEBRUARY) NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT – BINDING TO COLLEGE FOR 1 YEAR. THIS IS NOT A SCHOLARSHIP – IT IS THE ATHLETE AND COLLEGE ACKNOWLEDGEING THE INTENTION TO OFFER/SIGN A SCHOLARSHIP PENDING ELIGIBILITY CENTER AND UNIVERSITY CLEARANCE. SCHOLARSHIP PAPERS ARE SIGNED PRIOR TO START OF COLLEGE CLASSES EVERY YEAR. HOW WE DO SIGNING DAY AT CARROLLHIGH SCHOOL

11 I DIDN’T SIGN – WHAT NOW? SIGNING DAY IS THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY TO SIGN – NOT THE LAST SOMETIMES COLLEGE “BOARDS” GO UNFILLED COLLEGES WILL ALWAYS TRY TO GET SOMETHING FOR NOTHING INVITED/PREFERRED WALK-ON – PART OF 105 MAN ROSTER BEFORE START OF FALL CLASSES REGULAR WALK-ON – MUST WAIT UNTIL START OF CLASSES TO PRACTICE ATHLETE MUST MEET ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS BY NCAA/COLLEGE EVEN IF THEY ARE A WALK-ON

13 CHS/AHSAA/NCAA ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS OZARK CITY SCHOOLS COURSE OF STUDY ENSURES ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR AHSAA AND NCAA OUR FIRST CONCERN IS TO KEEP OUR PLAYERS ELIGIBLE TO PLAY FOR US IF THEY DON’T PLAY FOR US – THEY WON’T BE A PROSPECT ANYWAY 4 TYPES OF DIPLOMAS THAT THE OCS COURSE OF STUDY FOLLOWS: 1. REGULAR DIPLOMA – 28 UNITS AND ALL PARTS OF EXIT EXAM PASSED 2. CREDIT BASED DIPLOMA – 28 UNITS AND 3 OUT OF 5 PARTS OF EXIT EXAM PASSED 3. CERTIFICATE DIPLOMA – NOT ALL PARTS (LESS THAN 3) OF EXIT EXAM PASSED 4. ALABAMA OCCUPATIONAL DIPLOMA (AOD) – COURSES NOT NCAA COMPLIANT

14 ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY FOR AHSAA PURPOSES: 10 – 12 GRADERS 1. MUST PASS ANY 4 CORE COURSES IN LAST 2 SEMESTERS AND SUMMER SCHOOL CORE COURSES ARE MATH, SCIENCE, ENGLISH, SOCIAL STUDIES 2. MUST PASS TWO ADDITIONAL COURSES – USUALLY ELECTIVES BUT CAN BE A CORE 8-9 GRADERS 1. MUST PASS 4 CORE COURSES IN LAST 2 SEMESTERS AND SUMMER SCHOOL 2. MUST PASS ONE ADDITIONAL COURSE

15 ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY (CONT’D) OZARK CITY SCHOOLS COURSE OF STUDY IS DESIGNED TO MEET THE NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER REQUIREMENTS WE HAVE TO SUBMIT OUR COURSES TAUGHT IN THE SYSTEM FOR APPROVAL FROM THE NCAA FOR DIVISION 1, THE NCAA REQUIRES 16 CORE COURSES TO BE PASSED. DIVISION 2 = 14 CORE CLASSES CARROLL HAS ALWAYS BEEN ON THIS CORE COURSE REQUIREMENT IN SUMMARY – IF A PLAYER GRADUATES FROM CARROLL HIGH SCHOOL WITH A REGULAR DIPLOMA, OR POSSIBLY CREDIT BASED DIPLOMA (MUST BE APPROVED BY ELIGIBILITY CENTER), HE IS AUTOMATICALLY IN LINE WITH NCAA COURSE REQUIREMENTS. * AOD STUDENTS – ELIGIBILITY FOR US FIRST, THEN WE LOOK AT OPTIONS

16 GRADE/TEST REQUIREMENTS GRADES FROM CORE COURSES ARE THE ONLY SCORES USED TO DETERMINE REQUIREMENTS HOW CORE GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA) IS CALCULATED: EACH LETTER GRADE IS ASSIGNED A VALUE ex. A=4;B=3;C=2;D=1;F=0 SO IF A PLAYER MAKES A “B” IN ENGLISH AND A “C” IN MATH, HIS CORE GPA IS 2.5 AGAIN, NON-CORE CLASSES ARE NOT USED FOR CALCULATING NCAA REQUIREMENTS

17 REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH DIVISION DIVISION 1 & 1A – WORKS OFF A SLIDING SCALE FOR GPA & ACT/SAT ACT SCORES ARE REGISTERED AS A SUM TOTAL OF 4 PARTS OF TEST ENGLISH, SCIENCE, READING, AND MATH IF A STUDENT SCORES 17 IN ENGLISH, 17 IN SCIENCE, 16 IN READING AND 20 IN MATH, HIS SUM ACT SCORE WOULD BE 70 AS ONE PART (ACT/SAT OR GPA) GOES HIGHER, THE OTHER CAN BE LOWER ex. IF CORE GPA IS 2.65 THEN SUM ACT SCORE CAN BE 62 IF CORE GPA IS 2.25 THEN SUM ACT SCORE MUST BE AT LEAST 77 DIVISION 2 – NO SLIDING SCALE – MINIMUM 2.0 CORE GPA AND 68 SUM ACT

18 HOW AND WHEN TO TAKE ACT TAKE THE TEST AS MANY TIMES AS YOU CAN AFFORD WHY? THE HIGHEST SCORE IN EACH SUBTEST IS USED TO CALCULATE THE FINAL SUM SCORE. ex. IF THE FIRST TIME A PLAYER TAKES THE ACT AND ON THE MATH SUBTEST HE SCORES 15, SECOND TIME 16, AND THIRD TIME 18 – YOU COUNT THE 18. ALSO, MANY UNIVERSITIES USE THE SUB-TEST SCORES FOR PLACEMENT PURPOSES. A HIGH SCORE MAY HELP AVOID NON- CREDIT REMEDIATION COURSES. ACT/SAT TEST SHOULD FIRST BE TAKEN NO LATER THAN DECEMBER OF JUNIOR YEAR

19 WHEN TO REGISTER WITH CLEARINGHOUSE NCAA REQUIREMENTS ARE THAT A PROSPECT MUST HAVE TAKEN, NOT PASSED, THE ACT/SAT TEST – AND - REGISTERED WITH CLEARINGHOUSE BEFORE AN OFFICIAL VISIT CAN OCCUR CLEARINGHOUSE REGISTATION COST $60 AND IS DONE ON-LINE IDEAL TIME IS TO REGISTER AS SOON AS OFFICIAL VISIT IS SCHEDULED MAKE SURE YOU ARE A LEGITIMATE PROSPECT BEFORE SPENDING $60

20 ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS CONCLUSION 1.ENSURE AHSAA ELIGIBILITY FIRST 2.KNOW THAT CHS WILL KEEP OUR ATHLETES ON TRACK 3.REGISTER FOR THE ACT/SAT NO LATER THAN DECEMBER OF JR. YEAR 4.AVOID SUMMER SCHOOL UNLESS NEEDED FOR ELIGIBILITY 5.FOCUS ON CORE CLASSES – BUT DON’T NEGLECT ELECTIVES

21 NATS TESTING Combine for high school players pre- freshman through juniors Evaluation tool for all colleges and it standardizes the test ( ex. ACT or NFL combine) Easy access to the players information because of the online player profile Academic tool is helpful with tracking eligibility and with NCAA guidelines

22 ATHLETE REQUIREMENTS Attend at least one camp and/or combine What are summer camps for? 1. legal contact with player by college coach 2. recruiting tool – “eye test” 3. exposure to the caliber of other prospects REMEMBER – NO FULL PAD CAMPS ALLOWED
