Life Cycles Click on the underlined words to view the life cycle of that organism. Humans Butterflies Crickets Frogs Chickens Elephants Oak Trees
Humans Humans are born as babies As babies grow and change, they become children Children continue to grow and change into adults Over time adults age and continue to change Over time humans do change – they get bigger as they get older – but they don’t go through any really big changes – like growing new arms or wings. Butterflies begin life as an egg Back to Main Page Butterflies Caterpillars hatch out of eggs and begin eating plants Out of the caterpillar comes a winged butterfly As the caterpillar ages it begins to change. It spins a cocoon where it begins to make large changes Butterflies go through big changes during their life cycle.
Crickets are hatched from eggs but from birth look very similar to the adults. They do not go through a big change. Crickets Back to Main Page
Frogs begin life as eggs Back to Main Page Frogs The eggs hatch into tadpoles Over time, the tadpoles grow legs and start to breath air Finally, the legs grow and the tail shrinks Frogs, like butterflies, go through big changes during their life cycle.
Chickens begin life as an egg Back to Main Page Chickens When the chick hatches it is covered in soft feathers and cannot fly As the bird becomes an adult it becomes larger and the feathers change Chickens, like humans, go through small changes during their life cycle.
Elephants do not change much as they go through life. They get bigger, the males grow tusks. But the adults look very much like the young. Back to Main Page Elephants
Oak trees begin there life as acorn seeds Back to Main Page Oak Trees As the seeds open the seedling begins to grow. The leaves look very similar to the leaves of the adult tree The adult tree looks very similar to the seedling only bigger
