My town, multicultural space AIMS: to acquire knowledge of commonly shared history to valor their cultural inheritance to create positive attitudes SUBJECTS : History, Civic Education, Geography, Religious Education, Romanian, Hungarian, German, Arts: Drawing, Music, Technology – Home Economics/Gastronomy, Informatics METHODS: scientific investigation – researching, problem solving/situational debate, role-play, debating, drills, interview/questionnaire, statistic interpretation EVALUATION: session of communication-presenting projects theatre albums – old photographs – illustrations-pictures of the old city Cluj-Napoca portofolio-documents, testimonies, photos, final products display show

7 Examples 2. “The Paradise of Our School“ AIMS: 1. To identify and to get acquainted with values typical of the ethnic groups our students belong to ( history, language, art, traditions). 2. To develop concepts referring to human relationship differences and resemblances. 3. To develop the values identified and promote civic behaviour- tolerance, solidarity, equality, mutual understanding and communication. 4. To build up and further develop consciousness, self -esteem and positive attitudes towards the others. SCHOOL SUBJECTS AND DEPARTMENTS INVOLVED: History, Religion, Civic Education, Art, Music, Technology METHODS: brainstorming, problem solving, conversation, role play, team work, student-parents partnership EVALUATION: opinion and impact questionnaires, portfolio, exhibitions, articles to be published in the school magazine, school festival

HUMAN VALUES-TOLERANCE Aims: Education in the spirit of democratic values Shaping the attitudes toward admitting diversity Lessening/eradication of the ethnocentric attitudes and behavoiur Growing of the self-esteem and improving the attitude of acceptance Subjects: Civic education, Romanian Language, History, Art, Religious education, Music, Art Methods: text analysis, debates, role play, brainstorming, team work, audition, tour of galery Evaluation: Five minute’s essay, poster, portofolio, short dramatic performance Observation: barriers in grading and in working in team with other teachers

9 Team – Work working in group in the projects with parameters discussing the difference between group and team Results: Examples of C.D.S. (curriculum at school decision) Exchange ideas between teachers from different schools

But in the streets? Results: Solutions for what we can do to diminish the discrimination in the school and in the street?

12 Relation school-community in multicultural context Brainstorming Simulation game: sketch-poem-speech-construction School and Community Tomorrow, sometimes …in the future - school will be the very heart of the community - community itself will hopefully break the barriers inside Today …the relashioship is only partially functioning. The community itself is divided. There is plenty of room for more relationship. In the beginning… back in the past, school was born in one community : - the confessional one - community

13 Feed-back and concerns How can apply the new things learned in this training in my school?! What shall I need to do in my school...in my life?! Concern about my reaction to the others and labeling How can we work with teachers who don’t accept interculturality?! We are eager to have the manual to increase our performing
