2 STARTER ACTIVITY With a partner discuss: Have you ever made any targets/goals either in school (classes), sports (clubs) or at New Year?

3 Learning Intentions 1.To explain the benefits of goal setting. 2.To write out your long and short term goals. Lesson focus: Goal setting – creating your performance targets. Key Concept 5, Key Feature 3.

4  Setting targets that you want to reach.  Short term goals – that you can reach quickly.  Long term goals – overall achievement. Benefits:  An important part of planning for performance improvement.  An effective way of helping you understand what your performance targets are.  Helps you get ready to perform.  Makes you less anxious about performance.  Gives confidence when you reach your target.  Motivates you to work hard and be more determined.

5 Say exactly what you want to achieve. To see if you have achieved it or not. You should agree the targets with your coach. PECIFIC: EASURABLE: GREED: To reach the long term goal in time. IME-PHASED: XCITING: Be interested in achieving your goals. ECORDED: To check your progress. Make your training goals achievable. EALISTIC:

6 Long term goal  Long term goal – to compete at the Olympic games 2004 Medium term goal  Medium term goal – to beat my personal best by over half a second this season. Short term goal  Short term goal – to increase my speed endurance during my training this month to finish races strongly.

7 Long term goal  Long term goal – to play for Scotland in the European Championship qualifiers (and the Championship). Medium term goal  Medium term goal – to keep my place in Hearts football team this season (to start all of the games I physically can). Short term goal  Short term goal – not to let any goals in against Kilmarnock this Saturday.

8 SET YOUR GOALS! 1.Write out your short term and long term goals for your activity.
