September 15, 2011 CINEMA Status

GENERAL NOTES 6 UCB students, 4 recent UCB grads currently on CINEMA team, 1 Engineer from IAUPR, Collaborating Institutions Imperial College London (ICL) Kyung Hee University, South Korea (KHU) Interamerican University of Puerto Rico (IAUPR) Puerto Rico Space Grant Consortium Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory CEA Saclay (France) CINEMA manifested on ELaNa 6 (OUTSat/L36) Spacecraft Integration Sept 2011 Environmental Testing Oct 2011 Payload Readiness Review late Dec 2011 S/C Delivery Jan 24 2012 Atlas 5 Launch at Vandenberg June 2012

STATUS Preparing flight unit minus STEIN instrument for ACS test next week. ACS test is wireless, using Helium 100 radio for CINEMA RX, X-Bee for serial CINEMA TX. ICL/UCB currently building identical ETU stations, UCB/KHU interface board successfully reading Imperial magnetometer. !!! Flight Sensor and board to be shipped from Imperial before end Sept. Weekly assembly practice now with FLIGHT: chassis, torque coils, sun sensors, solar panels, dsPIC board, EPS, UHF radio, ETU: Battery, harnesses, IIB, MAGIC and STEIN parts. Flight spares of all major vendor parts ordered or RFQ out. UHF ground station waiting TACO antenna, all other parts here. Next Steps Scheduling vibe and TV bakeout to ELaNa 6 specs Cubesat Acceptance Checklist with Cal Poly early October – receive P-POD for vibe. STEIN instrument detector testing with radioactive sources October, ion sources in vacuum November. Replacing sun sensor glass with radiation tolerant glass. ACS test to become day-in-the-life test, fully testing deployables and radios, autonomous behavior driven by FSW.

STEIN (SupraThermal Electrons, Ions and Neutrals) Particle Detector Progress Flight Mechanical Parts ~80% Complete All boards have arrived and are being tested Collaboration with LBL on FPGA, ASIC & detectors ongoing ICD spec has been completed and up-to-date FPGA coding & communication in progress STEIN FSW module completed STEIN module on IIB has started & being tested with FSW I2C communication between FSW & STEIN module on IIB works Issues ASIC trigger issue needs to be sorted Need to test SPI and CDI interface on STEIN Housing for STEIN needs to be redesigned Next Steps Test STEIN FSW module Test GSE  FSW  IIB  STEIN chain down and back Flight Mechanical Assembly Test the detectors

ISSUES Harnessing Immediate need to procure or build connector savers TX header on He-100 Radio may need to be removed Determine how to captivate harnesses C & DH Flight Software Tasks expected to grow with first commanding/ACS tests. Very harsh environment test for ELaNa 6 Vibe: 32 Grms Qual !!! CINEMA design to NASA GEVS proto levels invalid. Heritage instrument experience indicates STEIN instrument unlikely to pass vibe.

C & DH Progress FSW can sample the magnetometer fast enough for ACS MAG data can be downlinked and parsed at GSE ACS integrated into FSW Foreground structure defined (different states and modes) Issues Telemetry not going through the IIB Do not know the sampling times for different modes regarding MAG Need to determine how to upload large chunks of data to CINEMA SPI interface on FSW isn’t generating a clock Need to test SPI interface on IIF Next Steps Finalize CTM AX25 and CDI parser for commands Upload ephemeris and STEIN data Error handling Memory load and memory dump Define 50 byte overflow command Test telemetry module
