Warm-up Pull out your rough draft Read over your draft and draw a box around a specific paragraph or set of sentences that you would like the most feedback on. Make a note in the margin of what you need help with in that section

Protocol For Peer Editing Directions for comments: – (+) symbol: to mark an example/fact/explanation that is particularly strong – (-) symbol: to mark a phrase or statement that needs further clarification The reader may not have the same background knowledge in order to make sense of the information – (?) symbol: to mark information that may not fit with the paragraph, or information that does not support the

Before You Read Prior to reading your peer’s draft: – Write your name at the top of each draft you read today. Critic #1: Johnny Manziel Critic #2: Beyonce Knowles Label your response paragraph at the end in the same manner.

Protocol For Peer Editing Round 1 – Pass your draft to the right in your small groups – Your have 15 minutes to: Read the draft from your peer Use the proper symbols to make comments – If you need clarification, write it as a comment. Do not ask the author on the back of the essay, write a paragraph about your first impressions of the essay. Specify what was successful about the argument, and what needs work for the final draft. – If you finish early, read over the essay again. Write any other comments that you may have missed
