CAHSEE PREP. Session 1 Number Sense Chapter 1 OFL Prep Sessions

Why take the CAHSEE test and prep classes? It is required of ALL students to graduate high school. You need to get about 70% of the questions correct to pass the test. The prep classes will give you strategies and knowledge to help you on the test.

Test Taking Strategies Look through the test before answering any questions. Mark questions which look easy to go back to and work on first. Write down all formulas and stored knowledge before answering questions. Show all your work and circle the answers in your workbook.

Absolute Value Everything inside the | | symbol becomes positive when the symbol is removed.

If the numbers have the same sign, add and keep the sign. If the numbers have different signs, subtract the numbers and keep the sign of the larger number. Adding and Subtracting Integers

Multiply and Divide Integers Drama Club members are washing cars to earn money for their script fund. Each car washed adds $5 to the fund. Each script they buy subtracts $6 from the fund. How much does the fund increase if they wash 20 cars? Multiplication and Division: (+) x (+) = + (-) x (-) = + (+) x (-) = - or (-) x (+) = -

Add and Subtract Fractions Fractions must have the same denominator before adding or subtracting. Elizabeth needs ¾ of a cup of flour for a recipe. She only has ¼ of a cup. How much more flour does she need?

More Add and Subtract Fractions

Add and Subtract Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions First you need a common denominator. MIXED NUMBERS: Then add the fractions, followed by the whole numbers
