To convert from, say, kilometers to centimeters, write your quantity: 10 km Don’t forget to include your decimal point!!! Count the number of spaces from “k” to “c” Move the decimal that many spaces in that direction. 10 km100 km1,000 km10,000 km100,000 km1,000,000 cm T - - G - - M - - k h Dk (b) d c m - - - - n - - p

A couple of things to keep in mind: The letters in black differ by one decimal place The letters in red differ by three decimal places T G M k h Dk (b) d c m n p

Meters (m) Seconds (sec) Grams (g) Liters (L) Hertz (Hz) Newtons (N) Joules (J) Watts (W) Volt (V) Some base units used in Physics:

Scientific Notation To convert from regular to scientific: 24,560,000,000 kg Move the decimal point so that the number is between 1 and 9 (count the number of places that it moved) Round the decimal part to the second place Slap a “x 10” at the end of the number Give the 10 an exponent- the number of spaces you counted If you moved the decimal to left: (+) exp. If you moved it to the right: (-) exp. 2.4560000000 kg2.46 kg 2.46 x 10 kg2.46 x 10 10 kg

Solving Equations Let’s say we have this goofy-lookin’ equation: New Line! And you must solve for “v” 1.Circle Mr. Stinky 2.Identify the furthest thing from Mr. Stinky & how it’s connected (+, -, x, or ÷ ) – Reverse order of operations 3.Make it move to the other side of the equal sign by doing the opposite function 4.Just make sure you do it to BOTH sides of the equal sign!!!! 5.Write a new line & repeat the process! KEm=v2v2 x 2KE=mv2v2 x mm v2v2
