1 A brief understanding of who are, how we work as a company and the benefits for joining Ocado.
Introduction to Ocado

2 Who we are The world’s largest dedicated online grocery supermarket A completely independent business Formed in 2000, by 3 investment bankers. Tim Steiner, Jonathan Faiman and Jason Gissing As per slide Explain to the delegates that Tim Steiner, Jonathan Faiman & Jason Gissing all had very successful jobs working together at Goldman Sachs. They saw an opportunity to develop an online grocery service which had been tried in California, but failed. They saw that this model could be modified and applied it to the UK. They started the business as 3 people in a small office in Victoria (London) back in 2000 with the ideas but no deliveries were made until two years later. They launched the Ocado brand in May 2001 and were delivering in Jan 2002 from a temporary warehouse in Hemel Hempstead whilst the Hatfield CFC was being built. Ocado now employs almost10,000 people in 15 sites nationwide with more to come shortly. Listed in the London Stock Exchange And…

3 Who we are We have arguably the most noticeable and colourful
Mercedes sprinter van and LGV fleet in the world We cover about 70% of the UK!! For a company that started in 2000….thats not bad going! We deliver directly from Hatfield and Dordon by van (it is a CFC and a spoke) We use lorries from Hatfield and Dordon to take the ready picked orders to our other (spoke) sites i.e Dagenham where the orders are transferred on to the smaller vans for delivery to the customer’s door/kitchen Vans and lorries all very colourful – part of the Ocado image LGV single and double decker – chilled and ambient to get goods from Hatfield and Dordon to spokes. Also mention: - longer term plan to have 4+ CFCs and more spokes!

4 What we do We deliver groceries all over the UK using a unique and state of the art approach to technology, logistics and distribution As per slide We always go the extra mile and always give our customers the kind of service we want to receive.

5 What we do We recycle everything we can, including our delivery totes or crates, our carrier bags (and other companies carrier bags too) and our uniforms – right down to the boots! We win numerous consumer awards for our incredible, customer focused business by giving our customers what they want….and more Our mission is simply to become the UK’s most sustainable and environmentally friendly supermarket. We firmly believe that we generate significantly less food waste than any of our competitors, thanks to our unique operating model. That is something we are fiercely proud of. We transport customers’ orders in plastic crates called ‘totes’. We line each tote with bags (‘tote liners’), which are then used to carry the shopping into a customer’s home. We take back these bags next time we deliver to that house (along with carrier bags from other retailers); sort them, then recycle them into new bags. This process is known as “closed-loop” recycling, and is carried out entirely in the UK. We have been voted the best online grocer by Which? For a fifth successive year We invest heavily in our IT systems to help make our process as efficient as possible from ordering to delivery and every stage between. We show customers on the booking page when we’re already delivering in their area – our famous “green van slots” – so they can help us to minimise drive time and fuel use for the delivery if they wish. We lead by example using innovation, we make our own rules revolutionising as we go and we are not afraid to share our expertise

People who drive the vans are more than just drivers. They are the face of Ocado. Because they deal directly with our customers we call them our Customer Service Team Members. CSTMs. Our people work in various roles (read list as per slide) throughout our regional spokes and our head office buildings based in Hatfield, Hertfordshire There are many opportunities for our staff to progress to other roles within the business. Once the 3 month probation period has been successfully reached staff are free to apply for any suitable role advertised internally. Many employees at Ocado have started their careers as Personal shoppers or CSTMs and progressed to other roles. The same opportunities are there for you also.
