Unit 3 Review Algebra 1 Unit 3: Solving Equations Review

Standard 23: Solve 1-step equations.  Solve:  8y = 24  10 + x = 14

Standard 24: Solve 2-step equations.  Solve:  2x + 3 = 11  -24 = -1/2 a – 4

Standard 25: Solve multi-step equations  Solve:  3(2x – 13) + 1 = 6 + 4  -2 = 4x – 2(3x – 10)

Standard 26: Solve equations with variables on both sides.  Solve:  4x + 6 = 12x + 3  3(2x + 3) = 5 ( 9x – 10) – 19

Standard 27: Use equations to solve real- world situations.  Pang drove to his mother’s house to drop off a new TV. He drove 50 miles per hour there and back and spent 10 minutes dropping off the TV. The entire journey took him 94 minutes. How far away does his mother live?

Standard 28: Use ratios and proportions to model real-life situations.  A restaurant serves 100 people a day and makes a profit of $908. If the restaurant were to serve 250 people what would the profit be?  The ratio of boys to girls in class is 4:7. If there are 28 girls in the class, how many boys are there?

Standard 29: Solve real-life situations involving percentage problems.  I go shopping and buy a sweater that is $50.50 but is on sale for 45% off. What is the price of the sweater after the discount.  If I buy my new car online I will get a 5% discount. How much will I save on a $20,000 car by buying it online?

Standard 30: Use scale on a map to solve problems using scale drawings.  Given the map, measure the distance between Sioux City and Mason City.  What is the distance between Ottumwa and Dubuque?

Standard 31: Read, understand, and solve given real-life situations using equations.  A TV is advertised on sale. If is 35% off and has a new price of $195. What is the pre-sale price?  An employee at a store is currently paid $9.50 per hour. If she works a full year she gets a 12% pay raise. What will her new hourly rate be after the raise?
