Searching and Shopping Tour Unlock the “POWER” of V6.1 To navigate through this Tutorial, use your mouse, or your Page Up or Down Keys Introduction Slide 1

With the improved V6.1, Catalog searching couldn’t be easier! Introduction Slide 2

You must be a registered shopper or orderer to be able to view item prices, build shopping carts, and proceed to final checkout. You may otherwise “Shop as a Guest” which allows very limited shop and search functions without the need to register. Instruction Slide 1

If already registered, let’s begin. Enter your User Name and Password then Login Instruction Slide 2

After login, a DOD Users Policy Page will display. Choosing Exit will advance you to the next screen but the Policy Page will display upon every subsequent login. In this tutorial, choose “Exit and do not show policy page again”. Instruction Slide 3

Now logged in, begin an item search by clicking on the “Catalog Search” button found under the “Shop” tab. Instruction Slide 4

Depending on how you registered, your search might begin on a service or agency-specific landing page. For this Army registrant example, the search page defaults to the Army Corridor Landing Page with Army Office Supply BPAs displayed as the starting point for an item search. Instruction Slide 5

Remember, for accurate pricing, if you order for delivery to different parts of the country, you must change your Region/Special Codes to match that area’s code. Click here if you need to change the Region/Special Codes for order delivery to a different part of the country. Instruction Slide 6

At this screen, you can change the postal code or add/change a DODAAC or Catalog Access code Instruction Slide 7

An error message will appear if an improperly formatted value is entered. Another dialog box will explain the error. Instruc tion Slide 8

Once the proper zip code and DODAAC are submitted, they are posted in the Region/Special Codes line as a reminder. Instruction Slide 9

From this “Landing Page”, use the pull- down menu to view and choose other corridors for searching or shopping.. Depending on your registration “permissions”, you might not be able to access or order from certain corridors! Instruction Slide 10

Using the pull-down menu, let’s begin a search in “All of DOD EMALL” using the keyword “bolt”. Click “Search”… Instruction Slide 11

Your search for “bolt” returned 82,339 items. You can sort the results by use of the “Sort By” drop down menu. Click to view the menu. Instruction Slide 12

The “Sort By” menu allows you to sort by price, supplier name, or ranking based on keyword used. Let’s sort by “Supplier”… Instruction Slide 13

3M is the first supplier listed after the sort by “Supplier”. You can change the “Order” of suppliers by using the “Ascending” or “Descending” menu option. Note that a sort does not reduce the number of items searched, but merely allows you to list them in a different order. We will “refine” the search to reduce the findings in a moment… Instruction Slide 14

Above your search results, DOD EMALL lists the “Most Frequent Matches” within its category database to the word “bolt”. This feature gives you another option to direct your search to a likely category. Try it. Click on “BOLT,MACHINE”… Instructio n Slide 15

The 82,339 items identified as a “bolt” in our “All of DOD EMALL” search have now been reduced to 20,179 by limiting our “bolt” search to the BOLT,MACHINE category. Let’s narrow the search even further …(next slide) Note that every search creates a search history, the results of which can be retrieved. Instruc tion Slide 16

While still in the BOLT,MACHINE category, add the keyword “a” to the word “bolt” and hit Search… Instruction Slide 17

The search has now been reduced to just 3 items. If your item appears in the results, you can add the desired quantity to a cart or go to another search. Instruction Slide 18

Let’s search another way since we restricted our search to the “BOLT, MACHINE” category in “All of DOD EMALL”. Clicking the X removes the category restriction and allows a search across all categories again… Instruct ion Slide 19

Let’s search for “bolt machine” again, but this time by adding the keyword “machine” and searching across all categories within DOD EMALL. Note the category “BOLT,MACHINE” is no longer displayed in the Current Search line. Instruction Slide 20

21,508 items with the keyword “bolt machine” were found in the All of DOD EMALL corridor. Let’s refine the search further… Instruction Slide 21

Once again, add “a” to the keywords “bolt machine” and click Search… Instruction Slide 22

Our search results have now been reduced to 324 items. This compares to 3 items found when we restricted the same keyword search to the “BOLT,MACHINE” category. Note the new keywords used in the search appear in the Current Search line. Instru ction Slide 23

We can view item details now by clicking on the item name, but let’s do a side-by-side comparison between the first two items …(next screen) Instruction Slide 24

After checking the boxes of the items to be compared against one another, click on the “Compare Selected” button… Instruction Slide 25

From this page, we can compare the attributes of these 2 items and add one or both to our cart, select one or both to compare against other items, view images of the items which display a camera icon, or go to a whole new search. Click on the camera icon to view the item… Instruction Slide 26

A vendor supplied image of the item is displayed. Click on the X to close the image window… Instruction Slide 27

If you wish to compare both items against those in another search, check “Select All” or just check the appropriate box or boxes of those to be compared. Instruction Slide 28

This comparison can be retrieved later by clicking on the “Product Comparisons” tab on the top task bar. Now, click “Return to Search”… Instru ction Slide 29

In searching for an NSN, you may be able to narrow your findings by using the drop down menu and choosing one of the three options. In this case, enter the NSN which equals 7045014839271. Instead of searching with keywords, you can search by National Stock Number (NSN) or item (part) number. Be aware that an NSN search in “All of DOD EMALL” can result in a DLA, GSA, or a commercial NSN. Instructio n Slide 30

The NSN search within “All of DOD EMALL” was matched to 24 items. You can sort as before and add to your cart. But before moving on… (Next slide) Instru ction Slide 31

Rolling your cursor over the “Gold Ribbon” icon displays a definition box which says this NSN is a Commercially Certified NSN. Click on the icon… Instructio n Slide 32

The item, identified by the “Gold Ribbon” icon, represents a Commercially Certified NSN. BE AWARE that a commercially certified NSN may or may not be identical to a Government certified NSN. If you are required to use a DOD/DLA NSN, do not use a “Gold Ribbon” NSN. Click on the X to close this window… Instruc tion Slide 33

We are going to search in a different corridor. Clear this search… Instruction Slide 34Instruction Slide 34

Once again using the drop down menu, select “NSNs Only”… Instruction Slide 35

Again, heed the NSN Warning statement! If you need a DLA NSN, do not substitute with a commercial NSN or rely solely on an item or part number match! Instruction Slide 36

Enter NSN 1005014806091 and search for it under the “NSNs Only” corridor. Instr ucti on Slid e 37

The NSN was found to be a BOLT,BREECH and available from DSCC. Like before, click on the item name for a description of the item. Instructio n Slide 38

After a review of the item details, this is an item we want so we are going to add 5 to our cart. Click “Add”… Instruct ion Slide 39

We can modify this addition to our cart if we want. Note in the “Cart Summary” line above, the line count is now 1 and the running sum total of our cart reflects the 5 BOLT,BREECH to be ordered. Instruction Slide 40

Let’s go back to the previous screen. Click “Back”… Instru ction Slide 41

Note that a change in the number ordered can be made from this screen too. To clear this search, click the “Clear” button… Instruct ion Slide 42

Let’s try another type of search in “All of DOD EMALL” using the keywords “bolt machine” again. Click search… Instruc tion Slide 43

Our search resulted in 21493 items. This time we are going to refine our search only to those which have an NSN. Click on the “All NSNs” link… Instructio n Slide 44

Our results have been limited to 20389 items matching our keywords and having an NSN in their description. You can refine the results further by clicking on the Class 2 or Class 9 links or by confining search to the Federal Catalog System. Click on FCS link… Instr ucti on Slid e 45

Under FCS, the results can be under Hardware and Abrasives, Metalworking Machinery, or Weapons. Click on the “Weapons” link… Instr ucti on Slid e 46

Our results have been narrowed to just three items and were found in the “Guns, through 30mm” category under “Weapons” under the Federal Catalog System. Instru ction Slide 47

Clear this search.. Instructio n Slide 48

We are now going to use the other “refine” functions as a tool to narrow our search results. From the main search page, use the drop-down menu to select “Army Office Supply BPAs”… Instructio n Slide 49

Enter the keywords “note pad” and click search… Instruction Slide 50

Our search found 1931 items. We can narrow the results of our search by clicking on a “General Attribute” icon or by refining our search using UNSPSC, DAYS ARO, PRICE, or to a specific supplier. Instruct ion Slide 51

The “General Attribute” icons refine your results by credit card (CC) acceptance, MILSTRIP (MIL), Small Business Administration approved (SBA), Javits-Wagner-O’Day (JAWOD) items, items with an image (Camera), or environmentally friendly (GREEN) products. Aside from narrowing your search results, their use can help you comply with certain policies and mandates. Instruction Slide 52

Of the 1931 items, let’s refine our search first to those “note pads” with environmental or “green” attributes. Rolling your cursor over any of the icons will momentarily display a definition box for that icon. Instructio n Slide 53

Clicking on the green tree icon will automatically refine your search for note pads to only those which are identified as having “green” attributes. Instruction Slide 54

Search results have now been reduced to 199 items all of which have “green” attributes. Let’s refine our list down further by using the JWOD icon… Note that our results now all have a green tree icon. Instructio n Slide 55

We have now narrowed our search results to 30. This represents all note pads which have “green” attributes and meet JWOD requirements. Note how the icons, once used, are displayed in a box. This shows what refinements are in effect, and can be clicked on again to remove that refinement condition. Instruct ion Slide 56

Our results are now refined by green and JWOD attributes. Let’s refine our results to just those green and JWOD items supplied by the National Industries for the Blind. Click on the related supplier link.. Instruction Slide 57

Our search results have now been reduced to 18 items all of which are considered “green” and meet JWOD requirements and are limited to just those offered by the National Industries for the Blind… Instr uctio n Slide 58

Now that you have seen how the refinements work, the process for refining by “Days ARO” and “Price” works the same way. Instruction Slide 59

As you refine your search, the default action keeps refinements. If you select “Discard” and then “Search”, all of the refinements will be lost. Remember, to remove a single “General Attribute” refinement from the search results, just click on the respective boxed icon Instructio n Slide 60

Refining a search using the UNSPSC is a bit different. First, let’s search using the keyword “VOIP phone”. Click “Search”… UNSPSC, using artificial intelligence, attempts to bridge the gap between commercial names and item definitions to those within the Federal Cataloging System. Instruction Slide 61

Our search in “All of DOD EMALL” found 200 items based on the keywords “VOIP Phone”. To refine using UNSPSC, click on that link… Instruc tion Slide 62

The search results have been reduced to 117 items. Continue to drill down by clicking on the desired UNSPSC link. Looking for a VIOP Phone, click on the category which best matches the item, in this case, “Telecommunications”… UNSPSC has up to four tiers or layers of information to “drill” down to in refining a search. UNSPSC has up to four tiers or layers of information to “drill” down to in refining a search. Instruction Slide 63

With our search now reduced to 113 items, drill down to the next UNSPSC layer, “Communications Devices and Accessories” by clicking on the link. Instruct ion Slide 64

Our search results now reduced to 79 items, click on the next UNSPSC level which describes the item we are searching for, a phone. In this case, a phone is considered a “Personal Communications Device”. Instructio n Slide 65

We have now drilled down to the lowest UNSPSC level which is “IP Phones”. There are 77 items in this category. We can refine our search from here using other attributes if desired. Instructio n Slide 66

Clicking on the up arrow will take you to the previous level of refinement. Click on the up arrow… Instruction Slide 67

We have moved up a UNSPSC level with a corresponding increase in search results. Clicking on the X will remove the entire UNSPSC refinement. Click on the X… Instruc tion Slide 68

We are now back to where we started from with our original search in “All of DOD EMALL” using the keywords “VOIP Phone”. Instruction Slide 69

One final note, some searches lead to items which have a “blue light” icon. Click on the icon for its definition… Instructio n Slide 70

The “blue light” icon for this specific item shows there is a discount for quantity orders. Additional details provided by the supplier might also appear in this note. Click Close… Instructio n Slide 71

We are done with our search. Click on the Cart Summary to proceed to checkout. Instruction Slide 72

Proceed to checkout or make changes to your order. See the “Check Out Options” tutorial for more details. Instruction Slide 73
