Copyright © Ed2Net Learning, Inc. 2 Welcome Hello! How are you today. Lets start a new Lesson !

Copyright © Ed2Net Learning, Inc. 3 Recap In the last chapter, we learned how to add numbers to find the sum. The numbers you add are called addends. When you add zero to any number, the sum is the number itself. You can change the order of the addends, but the sum remains the same. When you count on to add on a number line, start with the greater addend.

Copyright © Ed2Net Learning, Inc. 5 Doubles When the two addends are same, we consider it to be double. In this lesson, we will learn that doubles are copies of another number. You can use Doubles to help you add or subtract. 2 + 2 = 4

Copyright © Ed2Net Learning, Inc. 6 Doubles  You can use doubles to find a sum.  Example 4 + 4 = 8 doubles

Copyright © Ed2Net Learning, Inc. 7 Doubles and adding 10 Use 10 to add Now, lets use make-a-ten strategy to simplify our addition. Add 9 + 3 10 + 2 = 12 9 + 3 =12 is the same as 10 + 2 =12 Make a ten and have 2 ones

Copyright © Ed2Net Learning, Inc. 8 Adding 10 Example How would you add 9 + 4? 9 + 4 10 + 3 First make a ten. There are 3 extra so add 10 + 3 = 13.

Copyright © Ed2Net Learning, Inc. 9 Adding 10 Why making a ten helps in addition? Making a ten help us to add because adding a number to 10 is often easier than adding to other numbers. Make a ten to simplify Addition.

Copyright © Ed2Net Learning, Inc. 10 Something to remember!! When the two addends are same, we consider it to be double. Doubles help us to add or subtract. Making a ten help us to add quickly and easily.
