5 5 Some jobs sound really cool, but did you know… PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE  Very tough competition  TOTAL jobs in NFL: 1728  TOTAL jobs in NBA: 450  TOTAL jobs in MLB: 750 In Texas alone, there are almost 5 MILLION students!

6 6 Some jobs sound really cool, but did you know… ACTOR  Of the 100,000 actors today, only about 100 make millions  Average salary made is less than $5000  Extremely tough competition

7 7 Some jobs sound really cool, but did you know… VETERINARIAN  Earn a 4 year college degree with a high B or straight A average  Obtain a high score on an entrance exam  Spend 4 more years in graduate school  Acquire a state license by passing a comprehensive exam

8 8 Some jobs sound really cool, but did you know… LAWYER  Earn a 4 year college degree with a strong academic record  Obtain a high score on a difficult graduate entrance exam (LSAT)  Spend 3 more years in full-time graduate school  Pass a comprehensive state exam called the Bar exam

10 10 So What Else is Out There?  There are thousands and thousands of different careers!  To organize them, Texas adopted 16 career clusters  Each cluster has a pathway that leads you to specific types of jobs; each job has a specific program of education/training that can start as early as middle school!
