1 Overview of Preliminary and Final Reports MICS3 Data Analysis and Report Writing Workshop

2 MICS3 Reports Two reports are to be produced (to begin with) after the completion of data collection: Preliminary and Final Reports Templates provided for the convenience of participating countries All templates are/will be available in English, French, Arabic, Russian and Spanish Templates to be customized by countries, depending on the contents of their surveys and their priorities

3 Preliminary Report The preliminary report is an early and brief version of the final report Our objective is to finalize data sets before the publication of the preliminary report Disseminate preliminary report to stimulate interest in the results – work on the final report In MICS3, the tables and topics included in the preliminary report are a subset of the final report Guidelines on the preliminary report provided at the beginning of the template

4 Preliminary Report Background and Objectives Sample and Survey Methodology Results

5 Final Report A final, technical report should be produced, including detailed information on survey methodology and implementation, and all results of the survey In addition to the inclusion of all results, the final report should include the questionnaires, details on sample design, sampling errors, executive summary, other survey tools The final report should still be a descriptive account of the survey results, and should refrain from pointing out/discussing policy implications

7 Tabulation Plan Consists of 10 sections, and 92 tables: HH - Sample and Survey Characteristics (5) CM - Child mortality (2) NU – Nutrition (9) CH - Child health (20) EN – Environment (11) RH - Reproductive health (7) CD - Child development (3) ED – Education (9) CP - Child protection (11) HA - HIV-AIDS, Sexual Behaviour, OVC (15)

8 Tabulation Plan 20 tables suggested for inclusion in the preliminary report General guidelines provided in the MICS3 manual Each table has an associated SPSS syntax Tables indicated with a w (such as Table CP.2w) are working tables – should not be included in the reports but are intended to provide additional insight

9 Tabulation Plan In all tables, the indicators are shown on the columns – background variables are shown on the rows Weighted numbers of observations should be provided in all tables Dont know and Missing cases should be handled with caution Tables have footnotes where MICS and MDG indicator numbers are shown Explanations are provided – in many cases, algorithms are shown
