Israelology Class 12 A Dispensational Israelology Israel present (Part IV)

Kingdom of God = God ’ s Realm of Rule There are three interrelated ideas which must be considered in establishing a biblical concept of the term “The Kingdom of God” Right to RuleRealm of RuleReality of Rule There are two aspects of the Kingdom of God TemporalEternal ScopeOn EarthIn Heaven NaturePhysicalSpiritual TimingAt PresentIn the Future AdministrationHuman MediatorGod 5 Facets of the Kingdom of God Program The Theocratic Kingdom The Universal Eternal Kingdom The Spiritual Kingdom The Mystery Kingdom The Millennial Messianic Kingdom

2) The Rejection of the Messianic Kingdom the Messiahship of Jesus its results and consequences The second sign of Jonah the Resurrection of Jesus which was rejected as recorded in the first seven chapters of Acts ending in the stoning of Stephen The results and Consequences of the rejection, Before and after Matt 12 Two Changes 1) Offer of the Messianic Kingdom rescinded and replaced by the Mystery Kingdom 2) The ministry of Jesus changed radically in four areas Miracles were signs to the nation of his Messiahship / now to train the Disciples Miracles for masses no faith required (tell all) / For individuals displaying faith (don’t tell) Sent to Israel to proclaim Jesus the Messiah / tell no one that I am the Messiah Spoke plainly clearly so they understood / Parables to hid the truth

Israel Present The Unconditional Covenants Although a covenant is made, signed, and sealed at a certain point of history, this does not mean that all the promises or provisions go immediately into effect. Abrahamic CovenantSeed,Land,Blessings Davidic CovenantSeed Palestinian CovenantLand New CovenantBlessings

The Gentile Obligation Gentiles are partakers of the Jewish spiritual blessings of the new covenant which places an obligation on Gentile believers, according to Romans 15:25-27. Gentile believers minister to Jewish believers in the material things. (Support Jewish missions)

The Church’s Relationship to the Unconditional Covenants Physical promises limited to Israel, the church partakes of the Spiritual. Ephesians 2:11-16, 3:5-6 The Death of Jesus ratified, signed, and sealed the new covenant The provisions of the new covenant cannot be fulfilled in, by, or through the church only in, by, and through Israel. The Physical blessings belong to Israel Church is a partaker of the Spiritual blessings of the new covenant The blessing of Salvation The blessing of the forgiveness of sins The blessing of the indwelling Holy Spirit

The Purpose of Gentile Salvation Two reasons 1)Gather from among the Gentile a people for His name. See Acts 15:13-18. This leads to Israel’s national salvation in the future Rom11:25-29 2) Is to provoke Jews to jealousy See Romans 11:11-14 This results in the salvation of the Jewish remnant in this age.

The Mosaic Covenant and the Law of Moses Israel present The unity of the Law of Moses The Bible views the Mosaic law and the Mosaic Covenant as one unit The three fold division Moral, Ceremonial, Legal (10 commandments 603 Laws) The OT word Torah, & NT Nomos (Law) is singular but contains 613 commandments

The Law of Moses has been Rendered Inoperative Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end (Telos) of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. Telos the conclusion of an act or state of termination Gal 3:19 What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.

The Law of Christ is our law of life today Gal 6:1-2 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. 2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Rom 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

The Principle of FreedomThis means two things 1 st we are free from any obligation to keep any of the 613 commandments 2 nd We are free to keep any commandments that don’t compromise the Law of Christ Three dangers to avoid, You will not contribute to your justification or sanctification, Don’t become legalistic expecting others to keep your laws, For a Jewish believer it will not make them more Jewish.

The Sabbath The Sabbath was the sign, seal, and token of the Mosaic covenant. Once the Mosaic covenant became inoperative the Sabbath law ended. There is no NT commandment for keeping the sabbath The Sabbath was Saturday not Sunday, day of rest not corporate worship

Is the Sabbath a Creation Ordinance? The Sabbath is not a creation ordinance for the following reasons The word Shabbat is not used only th seventh day There is no commandment that it be kept There is no record of anyone keeping it prior to Moses For God is was a day of rest or cessation

The Perpetuity of the Sabbath Read Pg 657 The Law of Moses Has Been Rendered Inoperative Read Pg 658 The Ceremonial, Civil, Moral distinctions Read Pg 659 Is the Sabbath Law Moral or Ceremonial ? (10 vs 603) Moral laws are not conditional with the day of the week, the Sabbath is ceremonial therefore it doe’s not apply Summary Conclusion as far as the OT There is no basis for mandatory Sabbath keeping based on a creation ordinance or the Law of Moses

The Sabbath Law and the NT The Sabbath In the Gospels The Sabbath was a major area of conflict between Jesus and the Pharisees. Jesus obeyed the Sabbath in the manner prescribed by the Law of Moses. Not Rabbinic Judaism, He kept all 613 commandments. Jesus gave many commandments to His followers but never the keeping of the Sabbath

The Sabbath In the Book of Acts The word Sabbath is used nine times in the books of Acts Once as a measurement (a Sabbath days Journey) Eight times as to the Sabbath observance in the synagogue of Jewish unbelievers

The Sabbath In the Epistles of Paul Col 2:16-17 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. The Sabbath in the Book of Hebrews Treats the Sabbath typologically as God’s rest

Summary and Conclusions The day of the Sabbath has never been changed There is no obligation to keep the Sabbath today Jewish and Gentiles are free to keep or not to keep the Sabbath We are free to keep the Sabbath in any form you chose The body must meet Corporately
