Are your customers ready to implement the Common Core State Standards? We can help.

How important are the CCSS to your schools? 5 4 3 2 1

Where are they on implementing them? NOT STARTED… AWARE Leaders know, but no action taken yet PRELIMINARY ACTION Preliminary steps taken, leadership trained ACTION Training for Leaders and Teachers READY Implementation plans. Training for teachers and leaders. Partnerships with solutions providers.

Is state led – coordinated by National Governors’ Association and Council of Chief State School Officers Outlines consistent standards across adopting states Currently focuses primarily on Math and ELA Includes rigorous content and a focus on the assessment and application of knowledge as a true measure of understanding Aligned with college and career expectations Informed by top performing countries and states Is research-based But first, a few Common Core basics

The standards focus primarily on what content should be taught, not too much on how it should be taught. The standards provide deep focus on new student behavior and practices. New assessments should (will) impact everything. But these thoughts really drove what we did.

Pearson delivers the selected workshop(s) to the trainer candidates…. and provides additional training on content and workshop facilitation. Facilitator candidates then deliver part of the workshop back to Muscogee personnel who select actual trainers. Trainers use Pearson materials to train additional cohorts. Pearson provides an agreed-upon number of hours of on-site coaching to support sustainability. “Capacity-Builder+” sample implementation plan

OK, you want to talk Common Core? You got 30 seconds. What do you got?

June 10, 2011 Dear Deborah, Gina and Jennifer, Thank you so much for all of your help and support in planning and handling the logistics of our Common Core Institute session last Thursday. As you read in the last e-mail, our teachers raved about the day, and Karen, Jodi, Bill and I were equally impressed with the sessions that we attended. We are thinking about repeating the assessment session for our principals over the summer. We are having a Principals’ Meeting this week, on Wednesday, June 15th, and plan to ask our principals which summer dates would work for them. We will let you know the dates that we are considering very shortly and would also like to discuss other sessions for next year. Thanks again. Thomas Instructional Core Specialist Children First Network Pearson handles large CCSS installations with quality 35 unique workshops on June 9th in NYC Trainings that deliver the intended results
