2 “Jožef Stefan” Institute Transnational ICT and Security Technology Opportunities – Ljubljana, 31 May 2007 Core Technology Security extension for IEEE Std 1149.1 Systems incorporating scan-chains (or boundary-scan) that enable the access to system's internal points and consequently facilitate testing are vulnerable via test access ports. Since scan-chain technology is widely used in embedded systems in different applications ranging from smart credit cards to process control systems in critical infrastructures supporting our everyday life, it is of vital importance to be aware of potential vulnerabilities and to provide mechanisms for ensuring system safety. We have developed a security extension for IEEE Std 1149.1 (boundary-scan). We work on other solutions for preventing access to unauthorized users to break in a system via test access ports. Main advantages: Conformance with IEEE Std. 1149.1, improvement of system security at small hadrware overhad Market potential: Applicable to systems with IEEE Std 1149.1 test infrastructure Partnership Producers of systems with IEEE Std 1149.1 (boundary scan) test infrastructure

3 “Jožef Stefan” Institute Transnational ICT and Security Technology Opportunities – Ljubljana, 31 May 2007 Core Technology Secure data storage unit Recently implemented secure data storage unit as an embedded system based on microBlaze microprocessor. The storage unit has been designed with the emphasis on data security, system availability and system reliability. High system availability is achieved by the use of recent non-volatile memory technologies based on Magneto-resistive effect (MRAM) and the implementation of Error Correction Code (ECC) technique in a separate hardware core. Main advantages: Replaces hard disk in systems where high level of security is required. Market potential: Secure data storage unit is targeting applications where data security and system reliability are very important. This includes banking applications, military systems and industrial systems, which contain critical information. Although developed for the specific application for casinos, the secure data storage unit can be used with minor modifications in other systems. Partnership Companies developing banking applications, casinos, military systems, industrial sytems

4 “Jožef Stefan” Institute Transnational ICT and Security Technology Opportunities – Ljubljana, 31 May 2007 Core Technology Visual servoing of industrial robots 3D visual servoing is a technique that uses at least 2 vision sensors to guide, assist, supervise or control different robot tasks and has not fully matured as industrial technology yet. There are only a few applications already working in the real industrial environment mainly due to the lack of robustness, difficult illumination conditions and challenging unstructured industrial environment. Main advantages: Increased versatility, flexibility, adaptability, robustness and precision of robot systems at affordable cost. Market potential: welding, machining, assembley, material handling, packaging, cageless operations European and world-wide market potential Partnership Robot producers, robot system integrators, robot consumers
