LANGUAGE Imagery What do the following images suggest to you? ‘Beat him soft like clay’ ‘Stuffed him down the belly of a jeep’ ‘my savouring mouth’ ‘my bewildered lawn ‘A knock on the door froze my hungry hand’ What is the poet trying to convey through each of these images? Choice of words How does the poet distinguish between people he knows and people he does not through his choice of language?

5 STRUCTURE In groups Work together – I want EVERYONE TO PARTICIPATE!
How the poem looks on the page What do you notice about the way the poem looks on the page? Why do you think the poet indents parts of stanzas 1-3? How the poem is organised into stanzas. Summarise each stanza. Why is the poem broken up in this way? How the ideas develop. Look at the time of day in each stanza – how does this suggest a progression or pattern through the poem? Why do you think the poet created this pattern? Does it follow a convention? Look at the repeated sections. They alternate with ‘verse like’ sections. What convention might this suggest?

9 Your feedback More about context
How do the interpretations of a poem’s language change the meaning overall. Can we write our own poems? What is CTLSO? Why do we have definite answers for what is right or wrong? Structure in more detail. How long are we doing loyalty for? Are stanzas that important? Why do we need to know this? Is there another way to help without getting involved? How do I really attack a quotation? Why are all the poems racist stuff? Why are we only covering poems?

So you can comment on it in your 1.8 assmnt Probably to phone the police or tell a teacher.
