Marc Luyckx GHISI, 2 CHAPTER 1 : DESCRIPTION OF THE TRANSFORMATION

Marc Luyckx GHISI, 3 P. Drucker: Transformation Every few hundred years in Western History there occurs a sharp transformation. Within a few short decades, society rearranges itself : its worldview (paradigm), its basic values, its social and political structures, its arts, its key institutions. Fifty years later there is a new world.” Peter DRUCKER: “Post Capitalist Society”. Butterworth Heinemann, 1993, 2001, p.1.

Marc Luyckx GHISI, 4 WILLIS HARMAN “We are living through one of the most fundamental shifts in History: a change in the actual belief structure of Western Society. No economics, political or military power can compare with the power of a change of mind. By deliberately changing their images of reality, people are changing the world.”“We are living through one of the most fundamental shifts in History: a change in the actual belief structure of Western Society. 6 Marc Luyckx GHISI, 6 FIVE LEVELS OF CHANGE

Marc Luyckx GHISI, 7 Transformation’s five levels 1.Humanity is in danger of collective death 2.Knowledge society is the End of the Patriarchal values (CCC) 3.Knowledge Society is the end of modernity. It is tansmodern. (post secular, flat, tolerant, new level of responsibility and consciousness). 4.Knowledge society is also a new economic logic. 5.Knowledge society is potentially a new political concept of non violence between States. (like EU)

Marc Luyckx GHISI, 8 The Iceberg of TRANSMODERNITY Level 2 : End of Patriarchal myths, sacred and values Level 3: End of Modernity: REASON Only Truth, Science, Violence, Pyramids, Control Level 4 : The knowledge society : post-capitalist society (Drucker) Level 5 : Credibility gap for all Institutions is increasing Level 1 : Danger of Collective Death

Marc Luyckx GHISI, 9 LEVEL 1: HUMANITY IS IN DANGER OF COLLAPSE

Marc Luyckx GHISI, 10 WorldWatch Institute Washington “Our global economy is outgrowing the capacity of the earth to support it, moving us ever closer to decline and possible collapse….“Our global economy is outgrowing the capacity of the earth to support it, moving us ever closer to decline and possible collapse…. “We have the technologies needed to build the new economy…”“We have the technologies needed to build the new economy…” Lester BROWN: “Plan B 2.0” Norton NY, London 2006. 15 Marc Luyckx GHISI, 15 KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY = END OF COMMAND AND CONTROL Every LEADER will have to shift his approach, and the political structures towards post patriarchal values:Every LEADER will have to shift his approach, and the political structures towards post patriarchal values: –respect for the environment, –Importance of human relations –Fostering the joy of creation, –contact with nature, link with the cosmos, –Interiority, spiritual dimension

Marc Luyckx GHISI, 17 END OF MODERNITY END OF MODERNITY We change “narrative”

Marc Luyckx GHISI, 18 Multi level changes... 1.Structures: From pyramids to void circle 2.Status of rational thinking 3.Status of Spiritual aspiration (religion) in public. 4.Status of truth: real tolerance. 5.Status of Science and tech. 6.Status of political violence: beyond war 7.Status of body, intuition, ethics, esthetics...

Marc Luyckx GHISI, 19 0. Pre-Modern to Modern : Pyramid to Pyramid PRE-MODERNMODERN COSMOS = object GOD Clergy Government Men Women REASON Economist Government Men Women COSMOS = sacred

Marc Luyckx GHISI, 20 1. From Modern to Transmodern: From Pyramid to void cercle MODERN TRANSMODER N Cultures Centre is empty Men part of COSMOS Men ‘above’ the COSMOS REASONEconomist Government Men Women

CONCLUSION The transformation we are in is a change of vision of the world, a change of narrative. Simply because the actual narrative is NOT able to say anything about our common survival. It is a paradigm shift. It is thus a shift away from Death, from Patriarchy and from Modernity itself.

Marc Luyckx GHISI, 22 CHAPTER 2: THE NEW ECONOMIC TOOLS KNOWLEDGE ECONOMICS

Marc Luyckx GHISI, 24 A NEW WORLD... 1.New tool of production : human brain 2.New CEO: Enabling creativity and sharing, Caring for humans = new human-centered management 3.New value creation process : adding Knowledge to Knowledge. 4.BEYOND Trade: from Free Trade to Free Sharing 5.New measurements = qualitative “intangibles”

SUSTAINABLE FUTURE: YES This « knowledge society » is potentially sustainable because: IF companies invest in sustainability, they increase their INTANGIBLE ASSETS. The cornerstone (quantitative growth) has changed into QUANTITATIVE GROWTH. If your company is « part of the solution » It increases hugely its intangible assets.

INCLUSIVE FUTURE : YES In this new economy, social inclusion is a plus, because: It fosters new ideas and creativity (Colgate) It increases the intangible assets of the company. It increases the meaning of the company.

CHAPTER 3: NEW POLITICAL TOOLS : NON VIOLENCE BETWEEN STATES

Croatia, March 2009 Marc Luyckx GHISI, 31 The EU is the first alliance of non-violence between States Modernity has invented the State= non violence inside national territoryModernity has invented the State= non violence inside national territory In a global world we need non violence between States. 32 CONSEQUENCE: WISDOM When you practice non-violence between States, you have to be fair and just. This is what EU Govts have not yet understood. It is a new level of political consicousness and responsibility. Meanwhile EU is already pushing for a new narrative, a new Dream.

EUROPEAN & AMERICAN DREAMS DIVERGE MORE AND MORE

WHEN DREAMS DIVERGE... « The divergence of views on science and technology between Americans and Europeans is growing and now coming to the force in a myriad of public policy debates...(Rifkin: European Dream: 320)

EMBEDDED in the US DREAM « Just as Amercians took up the European Enlightnment dream of material progress, the pursuit of self-interest, and individual autonomy, and ran with it in its most pure form, while European attachment was more tentative, so, too with the Enlightenment notions of science and technology. » Rifkin, p 319.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLGY « Although Americans, by and large, continue to champion the European Enlightenment vision, putting their unswerving faith in scientific advances, European are beginning to have doubts about the wisdom of uncritical acceptance of old shibboleths. » (Rifkin, p 318.)

POLTICAL TOOLS... Non-violence between States is a strong political tool toward a sustainable and socially inclusive future. However it presupposes a new narrative. A new Dream relying on another vision of freedom, risk, science, work and nature, life and death.
