Learning Objectives Discuss the importance of Cyber Safety with students Understand the impact of recent California and federal laws Understand copy right and fair use Identify appropriate procedures in the event cyber- bullying occurs Locate the Digital Citizenship curriculum and resources on the DUSD website

Senate Bill 1492, which became Public Law No: 110-385. Title I of this law is the Broadband Data Improvement Act. Title II is the Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act. The new legislation adds requirements that schools, as part of their internet safety policies, educate minors about appropriate online behavior, including interacting with other individuals on social networking websites and in chat rooms, and cyber-bullying awareness and response. BP 6163.4 Student Use of Technology – The Superintendent or designee shall provide age-appropriate instruction regarding safe and appropriate behavior on social networking sites, chat rooms, and other Internet services. Such instruction shall include, but not be limited to, the dangers of posting personal information online, misrepresentation by online predators, how to report inappropriate or offensive content or threats, behaviors that constitute cyberbullying, and how to respond when subjected to cyberbullying.
