3 Role of the Department of Basic Education in South Africa To provide quality Education through: Ongoing professional Development of competent workshop The Development and supply Learning, Teaching and Support Material ( LTSM) The building of strong leadership and management in all spheres The Design, Development and Implementation of curriculum relevant to South Africa and meeting international standards The establishment of strong partnership with relevant stakeholders national and internationally

4 Relevancy of IEEE ( TISP) International Professional Association Focus on Human Development Advancing Technological Innovation and Excellence Participate and inspire global community through active participation in educational program Focus on critical areas ( Mathematics, Science and Technologic that advances development

5 Continue It is lead by highly professional people with high knowledge and skills It uses curriculum to provide work place experience It foregrounds implementation support

6 TISP Team in South Africa: composition and coordination Education officials ( district, province, national Non- Governmental Organisation Higher Education Institution Business communities Association Engineers Coordinated by Cape Town University of Technology ( Professor Nico Beute)

7 Progress to date Provided on – site support for technology subject advisors and teachers Develop technology activities for Grade 4 – 9 which is used by schools Assisted curriculum officials of technology in the development of materials at three levels Coordinated interested partners to participate in the TISP program Materials developed were used to orientate natural sciences and technology Intermediate Phase ( Grade 4-6) subject advisors

8 Highlights of the project The project has been well received by the Department of Basic Education Participating partners are committed The participants come with a wealth of experience and knowledge The materials produced are of high quality and complies to South African curriculum requirements The materials gradually introduced learners to the demand of the world of work

9 Future plans/ Proposals Adapting the current materials to current curriculum implementation overview Details of implementation program Finalization of Memorandum of Understanding between IEEE ( TISP) with the Department of Basic Education Rally for extra resources ( toolkits) to ensure smooth implementation of the curriculum Plan for the on site support of schools Develop Technology DVD in all eleven language Olympiad and Expo Exhibition, currently focus is mostly Science and Mathematics, not country phenomena but international With the integration of Science and Technology in the Intermediate Phase (grade 4 – 6 ) the Exhibition will be helpful Participating in Community of Practice ( TISP) internationally

10 Other detail Use of material already prepared Access to the material CD with material to be taken to the USA Curriculum documents to be available Members and affiliation of the TISP team Wool DVD as a sample of what we still plan to do Detail of the lesson plans sent by Rina for publication on the TISP website Any more suggestions?
