2. Welcome to 5th/6th Grade!  This is an important year for your child!  I will give you an introduction to 5th grade and to our classroom.  If you have any questions during my presentation, please raise your hand.  6th grade team is consulted with all planning

3. All About Me  My Background  I grew up in Southern NJ  I attended Franklin and Marshall College (BA) and Columbia University (MA)  My Experience  I’ve been teaching for 15 years.  I have taught K-8 grades, but 5th is my favorite.

5. Goals  To give your child the academic tools needed to progress to 6th/7th grade.  To provide a supportive learning environment.  To have fun while we learn.

6. Class Content  We will cover all the standards and skills that our state believes are important for you to learn during 5th 6th grade in Social Studies  Grade 5 - World Geography  Grade 6 - Ancient History

7. Expert Weeks  Complete 2 pages of packet per day  One in class one at home  Take online quiz

8. Theme weeks  Understand article/ topic  Work with team on task  Study main concepts

11. Newsflash  Students will keep a close eye on current events  Each person should always have an article cut/printed out and a paragraph which summarizes and gives personal opinions  I choose a volunteer every few days to share. If your article gets used you must replace it.

12. Group Projects  To be worked on IN CLASS  Do not fall for the “I HAVE TO GO TO SO AND So’s HOUSE”

14. Homework  It is students’ responsibility to hand in work in finished folder/ basket as indicated by reminder on board.  Late work is lowered by a grade per day  Written excuses by parents accepted

15. Tardiness  Lateness to class will be reviewed and discussed with parents and 5th grade team.
