I.Electromagnetic Induction A. The production of an electric current using a solenoid and a magnet. 1. A solenoid has electrons in it but they are not moving 2. When a magnet is placed inside the solenoid, the electrons begin to move which is an electric current 3. III. History A. Electromagnetic induction was discovered by Michael Faraday in 1831 1. He was trying to find the best iron core for an electromagnet. 2. He realized when he placed a magnet in the solenoid he got an electric current. 3. He later learned that if the magnet moved he got a continuous electric current.
