2 What is a ‘Flipped Classroom’? In ‘Flipped Classrooms’, the lecture of the class is recorded by the teacher and viewed by the student at his or her own time. The classroom time is then used for discussing homework, classroom exercises and projects.

4 Pros of having a ‘Flipped Classroom’. Students no longer have to struggle with challenging concepts alone outside of the classroom. Students can skip parts of lessons that they already understand and they are able to rewatch lessons that they aren’t too familiar with. The learning is implied in the classroom. The instruction is differentiated. Students come into class prepared and knowing the content and have questions if necessary. Teachers can have more one-on-one time with their students who are having trouble.

5 Cons of having a ‘Flipped Classroom’. Not every student has access to a computer or the internet. Students can not ask questions to help clarify information during a recorded lecture. You have to find or create a quality video for each lesson. Some students will not be able to listen and absorb information given by someone who isn’t their teacher. You must find a way to make sure that all students are watching the videos and are paying attention to them. Some students learn better when their teacher is teaching them and they can ask questions or make comments.

6 How do students access the lectures in the ‘Flipped Classroom’? Students can go online to access the videos, if the teacher posts them on the internet. Teachers can save the lecture on a flash drive, DVD and online for the students to use to watch the lectures.
