Serving Hands What does it mean to serve? Let’s look at how Jesus served in Mark 5:22- 24, 35-43

Mark 5:22-23, 35-42 Then one of the synagogue rulers, name Jairus, came there. Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet and pleaded earnestly with him, “my little daughter is dying, please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. “Your daughter is dead,” they said.

Mark 5:22-23, 35-42 “Why bother the teacher anymore?” Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, “don’t be afraid, just believe.” He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John, the brother of James. When they came to the home of the synagogue ruler, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead, but asleep.”

Mark 5:22-23, 35-42 But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples that were with him, and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” Which means, “little girl, I say to you, get up!” Immediately the girl stood up and walked around. (She was twelve years old) At this they were completely astonished.

Serving Hands How did Jesus use his hands to serve? How did they treat Jesus? Break into small groups to discuss more stories.

Small Group How did Jesus serve in John 13:1-5 (the last story you read) How did Jesus use his hands to serve? Why is it a big deal that Jesus washed the feet of his disciples? What example does Jesus set for us?

Humble Thyself Humble thyself in the sight of the Lord (echo). And He (echo) Shall lift (echo) You up; higher and higher And He shall lift you up.

Cast all your cares at the foot of the cross (echo) And He (echo) Shall lift (echo) You up; higher and higher And He shall lift you up.

Jesus is Lord over heaven and earth (echo) And He (echo) Shall lift (echo) You up; higher and higher And He shall lift you up.

Humble thyself in the sight of the Lord (echo). And He (echo) Shall lift (echo) You up; higher and higher And He shall lift you up.

Prayers Dear Heavenly Father… Teach us to pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.”

Confession L: Let us make a confession of our sins. C: Merciful Father, we poor sinners confess that we are guilty of our sins. We sin when we tell lies, steal, hurt others and don’t do the things that you want us to. Our sins are committed by our own hands. Lord, we are sorry and seek your forgiveness.

Forgiveness L: Our loving Father sees our pain and the pain we give to others. Christ lived, died, and rose again, so that there would be forgiveness to replace the hurts of our lives. Through the love and grace of Christ, we are forgiven. C: May we go out into the world knowing we are completely forgiven and that you will guide our thoughts and actions so that we can be your hands. Amen!

Pastor’s Message

Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.

Apostles’ Creed The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
