2. 2 What is the Community Partners Program (CPP)? The CPP is a Federal Government funded initiative designed to make mainstream aged care services more accessible to elderly people from Culturally & Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds. The program aims to achieve this by identifying the barriers that hinder CALD elderly from accessing aged care services. Secondly, the program aims to identify solutions to breakdown these barriers & improve access to these services. This is achieved by WORKING WITH BOTH SERVICE PROVIDERS & CALD elderly.

5. Quick Facts The aged care system is a foreign concept for most ASME as many come from countries who don't have it. Many ASME are reluctant to access services because they assume providers will not understand, respect or accommodate for their religion. In Islam, physical contact between the opposite sexes is not permitted unless they are family. It is desirable & highly respectful to call a middle age and elderly Muslim man “Hajj” & a middle age and elderly Muslim women “Hajjah”, either on its own or in addition to their names. 5
