2  Step 1: Rally the troops  Step 2: Develop a Message  Step 3: Plan the Event  Step 4: Promote the Event  Step 5: Evaluate the Event Planning a Testing Event

3  Identify a core group of staff and volunteers to spearhead the event  Think broadly about who might be interested:  Other community-based organizations  Other health department programs  Community members  Public figures and community leaders  Industry partners  Local businesses Step 1: Rally the Troops

4  Clearly identify your target population  Decide what you hope they will:  Learn  Think about  Do  Capitalize on national campaigns to reinforce your message  Use and adapt existing materials to support your campaign Step 2: Develop Your Message

5 Step 3: Plan your event  Determine event activities:  How can you reach your target audience?  Who would be a good ally to help promote your message?  Are there other partners to considers?  Are there other event you could coordinate with?  Outline the logistics  Secure any necessary permits or authorizations  Identify who will (or can) do what  Develop an event agenda  Encourage Individual Action

6  Hepatitis testing is NOT recommended for the general public  Access to rapid point of care screening is limited (for HCV) or not available (HBV)  Resources are limited  Reactive screening requires additional diagnostic or confirmatory testing Specific Considerations for Hepatitis Testing Events

7 Step 4: Promote your Event  Brand your event  Develop a Media kit, including  Facts about hepatitis  Testimonies or “the human side”  Information about your event  Use a variety of media outlets  Send out information early and often

8  Write thank you notes to all who participated and contributed to the success of your event  Debrief your event with those involved  Write up a brief summary to share with partners and the media  Start Collecting ideas for next year! Step 5: Evaluate your Event
