Homework Study vocabulary, notes, concepts. Math MobyMax will be a part of the students’ weekly homework. I monitor their progress on Moby Max weekly. I encourage you to do the same. Read 20 – 30 minutes. I don’t assign a reading log. I trust that you are inspiring them to read at home and helping them create time for this. Researchers have found the most effective tool in helping your child succeed in school is encouraging them to read more, especially informational books.

Homework Continued Study! The students will be expected to study for quizzes and tests. They will always receive a study guide at least 2 days before the test. I stress the importance of studying for current and future success. Homework is posted on my website daily. Please try to check their assignment notebooks on a daily basis so you know what their homework is. Students will take home a Homework Whoops! sheet if they forget their homework. This sheet is expected to be signed by you. If a student misses more than 3 assignments in a quarter, they will have a check on their report card under the area of homework.

Words Their Way The purpose of Words Their Way is to enhance phonics, letter patterning, decoding, and affix skills. Words may appear easy to spell. Easier words are utilized to learn the patterns well. Then they are applied to decoding and spelling more challenging words. Students will be grouped based on their assessment scores and previous sort experiences. Students will be taught by one of the 4 th grade teachers to differentiate their word study learning. Sort introductions, tests, and grades will be provided by your child’s Words Their Way teacher. Sort practice will be provided by your child’s homeroom teacher. It is important students practice sorting and spelling words at home daily to learn the patterns and prepare for tests.

Math We are using a brand new, Common Core aligned math curriculum. One of the resources we will use is called My Math by McGraw Hill. This is a unit program that builds mastery within the unit skills. The skills are assessed by a unit assessment that is administered across the district. There is an online component to this program that the students will be getting more information at a later time.

Math Groups Students will be flexibly grouped per unit to ensure their needs are met. Groupings will occur between classrooms and may change with each unit. Pretests, MAP scores, classroom assessments and teacher input will determine student placement of each unit. AT students will meet with AT teachers daily. If you have specific questions, it is best to contact your child’s math teacher for answers.
