Grocery List Making a list helps save time and money. Put your list in some type or organized manner to save time. Add items to the list as you run out of them during the week.

Impulse Buying Impulse buying happens when you purchase an item that was not on your list. This can happen when you go to the store hungry – and all of the sudden everything looks wonderful. Typically, impulse purchases are not necessary.

National Brand vs. Store Brand National Brand “Name Brand” Typically more expensive Often have “newest” items Occasionally may offer coupons Store Brand “Laura Lynn” Generic Often packaged at same plant as Name Brand. Sometimes Store Brand is items that did not pass a visual quality test but have same taste. Typically Saves money Rarely have coupons

Sales Tactics Things that stores do to make you want to buy more than you need. Examples: Candy & Magazines at the checkout Marshmallows with the Sweet Potatoes All baking items together at holidays Items in the isle that are on “Sale” Buy one get one free – typically don’t have to buy 2 to get savings.

Staples Staples are items that you should keep on hand at home. Examples include Sugar Flour Milk Eggs Ketchup Mustard Salt & Pepper
