DEF: a DOI for an element in a bunch of elements that belong together (all with DOI), Example elements: a.: parts of an article’s argument (e.g. abstract, discussion) b.: display items (e.g. tables, figures, video) c.: data on which the 'article' was built d.: anything nested (Matryoshka model or otherwise) For b. you find good examples in the PLoS journals – and in CTT

3. What is it useful for? Identify and link to the data behind any display item or other element Give one’s citation a more precise pointer Well, demanding new bibliographic developments to help make tracing all the links to 'the same publication' less complicated ;-)

Advocacy work for a new citation culture Provide component DOI for various elements Figure out among our readership in particular what is attractive about component DOI Support article level metrics (ALM) initiatives Join international initiatives for promoting any upcoming standards in this field
